Hey- just wanted a quick answer. Im convinced the best filter for my 1997 VW jetta 2.0 is the MANN OEM filter, but i don't want to spend 8 dollars on a filter. Whats the best bang for the buck? i run 3k or 6 month changes on my jetta, and it sees harsh driving conditions in GA traffic, and sees the track weekly on summers, it's my every day driver. Every sugestions?

noted. is puralator sold in stores still? duscount auto told me they dont carry it anymore.

You should search, this type of question has been asked many many times and you'll get all sorts of answers.

my opinion:

Low budget best: Supertech, purolator premium plus.

Mid budget: wix/napa gold, purolator pureone

Money is of no concern: Mobil 1 (Debatable)

Someone on here brags about a their-named "Mannolator" they get for $1.99 on sale at pep boys.

Apparantly it's a rare part number, that purolator buys from Mann and reboxes. Pep boys has stupid $1.99 sales, and takes a loss on the higher priced stuff.

found it, Audi Guy gets away with it.

spoken like a true Amsoil Sponsor.

15,000 posts, and you say it's the "best" out there.

I doubt seriously that many will take that for stock...

If I were buying filters for my own Jetta 2.0 I'd buy the Mahle-Knecht OC 264 for $5.02 each or the Mann-Hummel W719/30 for $5.63 each.

These are mail order prices that ship out of Smyrna, Ga, and you'll get them next day.

I simply don't fool with aftermarket filters for Euro cars anymore.

sxg6 - no issues.

Fred0803 - sorry if my post count offends you. Should I cut back? I wasn't going to post in this topic in the first place, but I just wanted to get the word out that there are better options at the top end than M1. There is nothing untrue about what I typed.

Read this thread, especially Terry's comments

As for the ORIGINAL question - I would go with Mann.
The title says: "What is the best filter" But in reality the true question is a bit different.

I remain with what I say about the Amsoil filter. Expensive? Heck yes. Great? Heck yes!

Fred, if you believed in a product would you not endorse it?

Many on this board are Amsoil users...I think possibly thousands. Some for well over 3 decades. The Amsoil EaO filters are showing some real world positives.

I look forward to any product that changes for the better-equiptment life and reduces labor costs and oil related disposal. The EaO filter could be one of those products.

If Pablo said it, I would listen .. And agree 99% of the time..

Look up my posts, you find that I am Mr. dino and Supertech filters as I find they do the job that the average engine NEEDS to make it to 300k and beyond with great performance.

BUT, I have NEVER seen Pablo "push" (stating that it's Amsoil or the junkyard if you run anything else) Amsoil or not recommend other brands of oil and filters when they will do the job.

I think you need to read some of his posts.

(and you would see that quite a few of his 15k+ posts DO NOT EVEN say the word Amsoil..)

(what a typical "Amsoil Sponsor"..

)

And I would agree with Pablo on this one too, the EaO filter is one of the "best" if not the best.

Sorry for jumping in here , but your post was so far off base. Had to comment.

Take care, Bill

Amsoil EaO filters are now what I use(air and oil). I don't care about the cost. All I want is that warm fuzzy feeling knowing my vehicles are protected with products (Amsoil) which I believe are superior.

I also agree with "Bill in Utah" about Pablo.

IMO, Wix (Napa Gold is 100% identical; just remove the number "5" from part #)
#51393 - OEM sized
#51191 - Oversized

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I checked, Amsoil didn't offer an EAO filter for the VW 2.0 engine. Has that changed?

I'm runnin' a M1 EP Filter right now (with Amsoil Oil...) in my GMC Truck.

How does the M1 (EP) Oil Filter rank...? Close to the EAO...?

Pablo, others...?

The Mobil 1 filters are pretty comparable to the previous Amsoil Super Duty filters in terms of efficiency and capacity. It's a excellent filter for the price....

WW,

Yes, the EAO-34 has a 8-11 psid bypass valve setting....
