what is it with Beagles?

About a year ago we got a Beagle (3/4) border collie (1/4) mix from the local SPCA. He's a good dog. He seems to get his heigth/size from the Border Collie and I think the Border Collie influence keeps him from barking too much (he's reasonably quiet for a Beagle).

Since then I've noticed all sorts of Beagle-Whatever mixes; Beagle-Pug, Beagle-Pekaniese, Beagle-Daschund (?).

My wife noted "they're prolific".

I seem to believe "and not too fussy, either".

The Beagle: "Hey babe, I'm there for you".

Is the Beagle some sort of Romeo in the dog world?

Ha, Beagles are certainly not discriminating, apparently.

We had a beagle years ago, and he would drag into the yard everything he could find; old shoes, balls, clothes, anything that wasn't nailed down. They're regular pack rats.

The fact that they are escape artists probably has a lot to do with it.

Over the years I've owned as many as 6 Beagles at a time to rabbit hunt with. While several were characters and loveable, they're all STUPID! What other animal would willingly crash through briarpatches 'till their "gear" is sawn into and bleeding?

I'd hardly call 3/4 border collie a beagle

I've not thought much of Beagles since I was a kid, as I recall that one of LBJ's dogs died from eating rocks.

I had a beagle many years ago- no, they are not stupid but they are certainly VERY strong-willed!! And you've gotta keep their food in a secure vault- they will eat until they burst. My beagle weighed forty pounds(!) at one time.

But ol' JB was one of the greatest dogs I ever had. Even though he died almost 19 years ago it still kinda pricks my heart to think about him.

Beagles are a truly great breed.

Beagles ARE a truly great breed! (I"ll still chose to think of them as stupid though).

Actually when kenneling, I kept 2 dogs per pen with automatic feeders. After initial gorgings, they stayed well within healty weight zones.
