I am so frustrated that OEMS cant keep the same coolant was what is factory. The parts guy at dodge says that the new purple is different than orange.

I have orange in a 2016 ram 1500 and becuase of the high miles I just want to do one drain and fill just to refresh what is there. I do not want to flush or change coolant types at this time.

What was chrysler orange?

Mopar Orange is SUPPOSED to be the same as G-05/MC Premium Gold-but, by 2016, the big $ Fiat purple is recommended. Our 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan (3.6) is doing just fine on Prestone AMAM (Corguard), though-it leaked AF like a freight train due to cracked heater hose fittings, so it was self-flushing... Prestone AMAM seems to get along with everything, from IATs, to OATs, to HOATs-that's what I would use. And basically everyone carries it!

According to the 2016 Ram owners manual:

"We recommend you use MOPAR Antifreeze/Coolant 10 Year/150,000 Mile Formula that meets the requirements of FCA Material Standard MS.90032."

Seems theres a general confusion about it.

If it helps, my owners manual states the same MS 90032 spec.

This might help. It’s the back of a Prestone Dexcool jug showing it was recommended for Chrysler starting in 2013. You can still get either Dexcool or Prestone Dexcool.

Orange is G-05, which is HOAT and Purple is an OAT, similar to dexcool. Under no circumstances should they be mixed.
Just saying-specify the Orange… MC Specialty Orange IS Dexcool, Mopar Orange (sometimes also called Red) is G-05 with extra coloring added. Prestone AMAM mixes with everything, I’ve done it (with regular Dex mixed in), didn’t hurt anything. All the coolant colors just serve to make things more confusing…

MS 90032 was superseded by MS 12106. When the embittering agent was added, the spec was updated. Still purple, still big $.

We’re not talking about Ford though, so not sure why that’s being brought up.
Coolant color means nothing across brands. You need to know coolant formula to know what it can be safely mixed with.

And I would not mix Prestone with G-05. You got lucky since you mixed it with dexcool, but saying it’s safe is just an ignorant statement.

Considering the FORD DEALER did it, and it is specified by Ford, and the van got 60,000 more miles put on it-I would say it’s going to work. I’ve quoted chapter & verse on the Transits and their heater core issues with MC Orange (Dexcool), and Ford changing to the MC Yellow (Prestone AMAM/Corguard). I haven’t put Prestone in a G-05 system, but I’ve used G-05 in an IAT green system without flushing multiple times, no problems. Done with this one.
