2019 Ranger with the 2.3T/2.3EB at 73k miles,

The two coolants in my OM are Motorcraft Yellow (VC13) and Orange (VC3), truck has orange from the factory but it's now discontinued. Got 3 gallons of premix yellow from Rockauto for like $12 each ready to go.

It looks like orange and yellow are safe to mix but there are warnings all over not to mix coolant colors. My concern is that the OM says only 80% of coolant comes out in the drain process and I don't know if a vacuum drain/fill will make a difference.

Any suggestions?

Also, is a water wetter like Royal Purple Ice worth throwing in with a 50/50 premix fill?

You’re fine. Yellow and orange Motorcraft fluids are entirely compatible. Now is the time for you to switch over to yellow. Some residual orange coolant is not an issue.

Ford replaced the orange with the yellow.

Also, Ford Motorcraft yellow is Prestone Cor-Guard, the generic 10-year coolant at Walmart, so buy it there and save money :sneaky:

Most of the universal coolants are a pale yellow color and specifically designed to not change the color of what's already in there.

Time to migrate to MC yellow. I did a drain/fill yearly for a few years to move the orange along.

No need for the "water-wetter" additive. As folks have said, just drain and fill with the yellow. I don't like to push the coolant drain intervals out too long as replacing the heater core can be a real pain on some rigs, so I would do it again every 50k or less.
