My wife got some paint on her ring. It's down between the diamonds. She asked me to clean it out.

My first though was carb or brakecleaner. But I don't want to ruin it if the diamonds are held in by some kind of epoxy or something that the chemicals would dissolve.

In the classic diamond ring with one or a few relatively large diamonds, there are little metal prongs holding the edge of each stone. Cheap stuff with many tiny diamonds may be glued together.

I try brake fluid first to dissolve paint mishaps, it tends to be murder on paint but benign to most other substances.

Chris all joking aside, take it to a jeweler. they do this day in and day out and will do a much better job.

Just an idea, but how about jewelry cleaner? I clean my wife's ring once per week and hasn't fallen apart yet, probably because it's made for cleaning jewelry.

Acetone. Even Benjamin Moore’s(provided it’s not alkyd or urethane-based) best will fall victim to it.

However, rings are lacquered but gold and platinum shouldn’t tarnish.

Take it to the jeweler. They can also check that the stone are still set tight.
This and this!

I would try something made for jewelry and if that did not work , take it to a jeweler. I cannot imagine taking an expensive diamond and using brake cleaner , brake fluid , other chemicals on it.
