What have you fixed or replaced on your car (out of warranty)? Future plans?

2005 Honda CR-V - 294,000km
MTF change, rear sway bar links, front control arms, front and rear brakes recently replaced

It's still very nice inside and runs well so we're going to keep it going indefinitely, unless something crazy happens that's too expensive to fix. Rust isn't a concern in my area

Lots of stuff that broke or wore out or was going to wear out

A few things that I thought were messed up but it turned out to be something else and they were really OK

2009 Prius, 194K -
Replaced the timing chain, guide rails, tensioner, VVT-I phaser, water pump. I plan on resealing the oil pan. Replaced the inverter coolant pump 2 weeks ago. Besides that, it’s on its 4th set of tires, 4th 12v battery, 2nd set of shocks, 3rd cat, and the sound system save for the factory JBL amp and speakers is aftermarket. All maintenance done in 5K intervals.

I planned on keeping this family hand-me-down until 300K rolls around. But if I get a new job that pays more, I also wouldn’t mind offloading this car - tired of being a target for cat theft and it’s just not a great car outside the urban jungle. It’s no longer Uber/Lyft eligible so I can’t make a quick buck off a starving Uber driver with this car - they would be pumped they’re getting a well-maintained Prius and not paying Hertz/Enterprise or a BHPH/subprime loan on a car.

1.4 man! Waiting patiently for the intake manifold, cM cover, and turbo bov to fail!
Yep, and it will. Been there, done that on my Mother-in-law‘s 2016 Buick Encore as well as many 1.4’s down at the car lot. It’s not difficult at all, just frustrating to realize how asinine the setup is.

Coolant drain and vacuum fill
Water pump, both idlers, tensioner, belt
Degas bottle + cap + one air bleed hose (TSB)
VC gasket + tube and VCT seals
Plugs and coil boots, then plugs and coils proper
Throttle body + gasket + purge valve
All 3 engine/trans mounts
Temp blend door actuator (I made the wrong call), turned out to be HVAC control head/module
Headlight/fog light/reverse light bulbs
Inner + outer tie rod ends
Alignment
Discs/pads all around
Mcgard solid locking lug kit
Key fob batteries
Air filter
Cabin filter (x3)
Wiper blades(x2) + 1 wiper arm
Different wheels & tires + TPMS sensors
Takata airbag recall (x2)
NYS inspection

These were all Motorcraft or similar parts 💰

Quite a list for a 10 year old car, but I was planning on the long game
...not 13 months 😳

Hopefully the body shop will contact me next week, waiting for State Farm to decide if it's totalled 😭

2015 Chrysler 200 purchased new in 12/2014 that’s currently sitting at 140,000+ miles. I replaced an oil pressure sensor recently, other than that, routine maintenance. I did replace the idler pulley and tensioner pulley assembly with MOPAR replacement parts when I replaced the belt, but that was my decision to do so at 100,000+ miles in. My Son will inherit this car.
2011 Ram 1500 purchased new in 08/2011 that’s currently sitting at 63,000+ miles, nothing but routine maintenance.
Hopefully the 2016 Buick Encore that we have for my MIL will be happy with all of the parts that we’ve thrown at it for awhile. It’s sitting at 87,000+ miles now and it was purchased new in 2016 and has been maintained as well as the Chrysler and Ram. I’m not very happy with it right now because of all of the work that has been done to it considering the easy life it’s had and the fact that it is well maintained.

371k mi on my GS400. All routine maintenance except for an alternator, a starter, & lower intake gaskets that "broke."

I heard that Dorman makes these parts which correct the problem. True?
I do recall seeing that somewhere, but I’ve had so many bad experiences with Dorman at the car lot that I’ve avoided going that route. So with that said, I couldn’t give an honest answer on that, but I suppose it probably couldn’t be any worse than the OE parts from GM in this particular situation. Usually OE is the way to go in my experience, but that is probably not the case here given their failure rate. It’s not a matter of if, but when.
I went with OE GM parts again anyway, but I saved the old intake from the trash bin to use as an experiment with the kits that I read about in some of the Cruze forums. The kit bypasses the check valve in the intake, which seems to be the first domino that falls when it comes to these failures. I need to do more research on these kits and read more follow ups to see how well they hold up over time, but it is an interesting idea.
When it fails again, which it will, I’m going to go that route and see what happens. Look them up and see what you think about it.

I actually have that kit in my trunk waiting to go in!

BMW 435i (N55) 65k miles.

Myself: Cabin and Engine Air Filters, Idler Pully, Belt and Tensioner (BMW paranoia), Small expansion tank coolant hose (BMW paranoia).

Paid for items:
Spark plugs,
Oil Filter Housing Gasket (leaking)
Valve Cover Gasket (leaking)
Valve Cover (BMW paranoia)
Valve Cover Vent Hose (BMW paranoia)
Turbo inlet pipe (Shop cracked trying to remove vent hose).
Charge Pipe (cracked, known to fail at around 60k mile)
1 set of tires.
ATF Fluid and Pan.

BMW Paranoia - It's a mental condition which comes with the car. It causes you to spend money replacing items which aren't yet broke but because you're already in there on another repair you don't want to have to pay same labor twice OR it will fail spectacularly and strand you.

Future:
My climate control system has been acting up for over a year. Unfortunately I've been ordered not to attempt to diagnose or repair myself so it's off to the dealer because we need a loaner due to having only one car.

Micky Mouse coolant flange (trying to hold off until the water pump fails).

What have I fixed out of Warranty? Well, not much, I own Toyotas and one Honda.

2013 Lexus LX570 - Had the only known issue go on me at 116k miles - Radiator busted. It's a known issue up through 2015, IIRC on the 200 series. The good thing about Toyota, they actually made about 98% of the radiators that were installed, but unlike many manufacturers, they FIXED the problem. I had a new radiator in my hands in 3 days and this was back in late February 2022....

2014 Tundra - I recently replaced the windshield washer pump. Only "repair" it's had, 162k miles on it.

2015 Lexus RX350 - Recently replaced the washer pump also. I think the only other repair on this vehicle was a VVT Solenoid or Cam Position Sensor back around 130k miles by the Original owner. Currently has 198k miles on it.

2008 Honda CR-V- I replaced the VVT Solenoid Spool valve at 164k miles and recently replaced the high pressure power steering hose at 168k miles. I think it's had an alternator replaced also. That's the extent of repairs on it.

I do all the maintenance on my vehicles and I try to do all repairs.

I dropped the oil pan and replaced the O-ring on the oil pump on my 6.0 Chevy LS engine.I regained my 40 psi cold idling pressure and 38 psi hot idling pressure. The highway oil pressure is now consistently 40 psi instead of 38 psi with a high of about 42 psi when revving to 3000 rpm.

My vehicles are 19 to 31 years old, I replaced a lot, cheaper than a car payment.
OP, a little advice from someone who raised 2 boys. Your Trax is too nice to give to a son for his 1st car, he will trash it. Go buy him a 20-30 yr old beater then give him the Trax when he moves out.

2016 Chevy Trax with 70K miles:
Front brakes
Vapor canister purge valve (went band recently)
Plugs
Tires
Typical maintenence

Planning on giving it to my son as his first car in two years.

2012 Infiniti FX50S 170K miles.

Repairs: Starter and radiator, leaking sunroof drain.

Maint: Fluid changes, brakes, and tires.

Future plans? Maybe proactively change the CDC suspension parts before they are NLA

2007 Grand Cherokee: starter, alternator, radiator, front brakes. Only 106,000 miles total but many years. We don't drive it much and we bought it 15 years ago as a turned in 3 year leased one. i think I messed up the original alternator by jump starting someone's truck.

Future plans: new tires for the front and rear brakes. Annual or 5,000 mile oil and filter change.

@Sedin26 asked: "What have you fixed or replaced on your car (out of warranty)?
Look at my signature, all old vehicles. I do ALL of the mx on all of them. No extended warranties, no roadside service, never been towed or left stranded.
It would take me a week to copy and paste their mx logs here, so no.

"Future plans?"
more of the same :)
