What happened to Dodge & Chrysler?

When interest rates are low amd subprime is strong their model mix mints money.

That's not the case anymore. Higher interest rates have made most of their aspirational products unaffordable for their core clientele.

The Hornet and Wagoneer have been epic failures as well. But the elephant in the room that no one talks about is how badly managed their dealer network has become.

It's frankly not the fault of the dealers. Stellantis is about as adept at managing dealer relations as Billy Martin was with managing beer.

Five years from now they will either JV or be bought out by a Chinese EV company that's bankrolled by the CCP.

Am I seeing this right? I went to both on their webpages and these are all I saw on their vehicle lineup
5 models on sale for Dodge (Hornet, Charger, Challenger, Durango and Ram Truck)
3 models on sale for Chrysler (Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid and 500)
Stellantis hasn't kept up. With Stellantis trying to rely on rebadging European models as American models.

They just need to hang it up in my opinion.

The demographic of the buyers have led to a public opinion that is not all that virtuous, but somewhat true, and a decrease in quality. They targeted people who dont take care of their cars, for short term gains for stock holders. Same for Nissan.

Dodge is an American brand, not an Italian brand. I think that some people do not like Fiat just because they are not American, flying a American flag making cars that were traditionally American. Those who really were Mopar Fans, I think have gravitated away. Those who just like to overrun the streets at night and not pay their loans, or change their oil, and have to fill their tires with air daily, couldnt care less.

Ram is the worst selling truck by far nearly 400000 units behind Ford and GM

I would say that if their books were open, you would see Jeep brand, carrying the rest. Again, the "American Jeep" made by Fiat.

These are just my opinions based off observations, and are not based in any science. I am sure it will make some mad. Sorry in advance.

JEEP Grand Cherokee should be their huge money maker. But everything I read it is absolute POS. Anyone doing long term reviews constantly has issues with them.

The day I heard that the new (back then) Dodge Dart would be a rebadged Fiat/Alpha Romeo I felt that the writing was on the wall for Dodge/Chrysler.
I would trust any Alfa or Fiat over Chrysler product.
Their problem are not small European vehicles. Their problem are vehicles like Grand Cherokee L etc. Money making is in SUV market, and they are doing really bad!

I mean, I've owned three of them and traded my Audi back in after a month on one so... 🤷‍♂️

They aren't perfect (see: capacitor fire on my current one) but they are very comfortable vehicles with upscale interiors, good infotainment and absolutely fantastic 4WD. The SRT and Trackhawk trims are a phenomenal value for the performance you get as well.

If it was a POS, I wouldn't have owned two, let alone three.

The WK (not WK2) which was back in the early Mercedes days had some electrical issues, but the WK2's were quite solid. Not sure what the WL's (based on an Alpha platform) will be like long-term, but I've enjoyed seat time in several of them.

Chrysler, since it has one vehicle (Pacifica) is likely dead without some sort of major resurrection exercise with something upscale and enticing, which seems unlikely.

Dodge is getting new product, so I don't think there should be concern about its future. It's the "youthful" geared brand, we'll see how Hornet does, but Challenger/Charger have been milking that old LX platform for decades and the new Charger is on its way. Durango has been very popular, I see OPP ones here daily, the police prefer them to the Charger and I'm seeing fewer and fewer Explorers, as they are being replaced by Durangos.

RAM is a separate brand for trucks and vans.

Jeep is where most of the focus seems to be, due to the brand capital it possesses.
Ram is the worst selling truck by far nearly 400000 units behind Ford and GM

So we are using "nearly" to fudge 100,000 units?

For 2023, RAM was 305,863 behind F-series at 444,926 units, which is still 84,973 units more than Toyota sold. Nissan moved a grand total of 77,324 trucks.

So no, RAM was not the "worst selling truck by far", that title belongs to Nissan. RAM sold the fewest units of the domestics in the 1/2, 3/4 and 1-ton segment.

I am talking new one, not MB platform. WL one. Quality issues, things falling apart, cables not being secured leaving people stranded. Grand Cherokee L should be strong competitor to Pilot, Grand Highlander, Atlas and then some more considering 4WD and longitudinal engine. But…

"Ford once again took the top spot, selling 750,789 F-Series pickups in 2023, a 15-percent increase compared to 2022. Chevrolet, on the other hand, “only” sold 555,148 Silverados, a 7-percent improvement. The Silverado’s GMC counterpart, the Sierra, made 295,738 sales. That’s a 22-percent improvement, and if added to the Silverado’s sales brings GM’s full-size truck total sales to 850,886 units."

Ram, however, struggled a bit in 2023, selling 444,927 trucks. That’s 5 percent lower than its 2022 sales total. Only so many people can actually afford a TRX, apparently. Keep in mind that the sales figures for the Big Three include heavy duty trucks – the F-Series sales figure is both F-150 and Super Duty put together, for example, and Chevy’s figure includes Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD."

Of course I was speaking about the Big three. Of course as I mentioned aswell, Nissan is on the bottom. I would add however, if Toyota ever maned up and made a 3\4 ton, there would be a big shakeup.

I would add that GM in fact is the best selling by far, contrary to popular belief.

Bottom line, Ram is not what is used to be in the late 90s and 2000s, greta trucks then. now they are Fat Fiats.

The BIG THREE.... Chrysler has not been a big three for many years...
