What should I run in my 2011 Subaru rear diff and transmission. Something widely available but also quality would be nice. I'm pretty sure it's 75w90 in both but wanted to know if there is any other spec I need to pay attention to or if there is a particular product that is preferred.

I ran Valvoline Synpower synthetic 75W90 in my 07’WRX. Bought the car new, sold it at 136K miles. Did a stage 2 tune at 60K. Did a 13.7 in the 1/4 with the tune. Never a problem. Changed the rear and fluid twice. The turbo felt tired when I sold the car. The car had a lot of company paid miles as my wife used it for business travel often.

My Subarus differentials have all done very well with Mobil 1. For the transmission they can be finicky to get a smooth shift, I will let others offer suggestions other than buying it from Subaru.

How hard are you going to drive it? If you just plan on street driving, Valvoline Synpower is a great choice. If you think you will track it, you may consider Red Line Severe Gear.

For the rear diff, any 75w90 GL5 will do, so just get the cheapest synthetic you can find.

For the front diff/manual transmission, you need Motul Gear 300.

The manual if I recall correctly says to change the rear diff fluid every 15k I thought that seemed overkill. Can I run the 75w90 synpower in my transmission to?

Which brand again?

You Mention Red Line and Severe Gear.

Severe Gear is a Amsoil gear oil line.

I’ve never used Valvoline but can’t knock it. I’ve always been a Motul Gear 300 guy (but did use Amsoil 75w90 Severe Gear in my ‘18 Forester), but I did a bunch of research on gear oils and enlisted the knowledge of @High Performance Lubricants to help decipher some of the results. Here’s two threads I made on them.

TL;DR: they’re all pretty good on paper. Some resist oxidation much better, some are better at reducing wear under light loads.

I ran Amsoil 75-90 in my 17 OB and at 100k changed it. Front diff looked pretty beat and there was a decent amount of material on the plug magnet. Rear fill was also Amsoil and was almost new looking. Notice I state "looking" as I did not have it analyzed. Not sure of your 11 but mine has a CVT and I learned after the fact that the front diff takes a beating in this configuration.

I moved to Valvoline Synthetic 75-90. Those soft "bottles" are awesome to use. I'll be doing 50k now instead of 100k.

Valvoline 75w90 has limited slip additive in it is that ok in the rear diff and in the transmission?

no
Previously supertech 75w90 was ok in the transmission but it now says for limited slip on the bottle.

For the transmission I'd get motul gear 300 or redline 75w90 NS
others have said amsoil SVG but I never used it.
I did like both motul and redline in my fleet of MT subarus.

It does look like the prices have went bonkers in last 5 years.

Motul used to be 15-20
redline was 14-18

now more like $25-$35

75w90 NS would also be ok in the rear diff. if you wanted to buy gal jug or whatever..
for redline
summit has good prices and free shipping over $100

summit does not sell motul gear 300

I can also run just a plain old school dino 75w90 correct? Just have to change it more often?

Still am amazed at Subarus lack of information on this. There recommendation is lax
