Planning to do early fluid changes on the front and rear diffs in my Bronco when it gets here (maybe 2500 miles?), wondered what folks on here would recommend.

Folks over on Bronco6G say that the supplier (Dana) recommends 75W-140 in both front and rear units but Ford specs a Motorcraft 75W-85 instead, should I just go whole hog up to the thick fluid for both ends?

Any particular gear oil stand out from the rest? I'm inclined to go with Valvoline's Extended Protection line for the squeezy bag, but would something like HPL be a better choice?

I'm due for a service on my Ram truck in a bit and from all the research I've done Pennzoil Platinum seems tough to beat. It's reasonably priced and readily available, which I like. It appears to come in 75w-90 and 75w-140.

The Motorcraft 75w-85 has a newer and more advanced additive package than the equivalent motorcraft 75w-140. I’d stick with the motorcraft 75w-85 if this was my vehicle. Wish I could say more on that, but this is a public Internet forum after all.

After trying a Amsoil squeeze bag, hard to go back! Maybe Amsoil 75w-85 squeeze bag, or Valvoline 75w-90 squeeze bag.

Interesting perspective, I'm assuming you work for a supplier or the OEM?'

When you say you'd stick with the Motorcraft 75W-85, is that just relative to the Motorcraft 75W-140 or would that be your first choice of any of the oils (aftermarket and thicker included)?

Yes and yes.

The additive package is more important for wear protection than viscosity in most cases. I've seen thinner fluids with newer add packs outperform thicker fluids with legacy add packs in wear protection. These were not consumer-grade or marketing tests.

I'm not familiar with the additive formulations of the aftermarket fluids, and have no reason to doubt them. I'd feel confident using a name-brand product in the diff. Changing the fluid is a big step forward in wear protection. It's probably not necessary for the product's longevity, but clean fluid certainly reduces wear, especially if you are operating the product outside of its intended use case.

@MolaKule I took a look at some of your pinned posts, for the Bronco's 7MT and transfer case would you recommend HPL's MTL 75W and ATF Green? The OEM fluids are XT-11-QDC and Mercon LV, respectively.
