Why oh why do they do this? 75w85 recommended but not popular on the shelf.

O'Reilly stocks Redline 75w-85 which has a bunch of automaker specs on the back of the bottle. It's popular enough that it's literally out front in the gear oil section, not hidden in the back. Is it the cheapest stuff ever, no, but it's not really much more than other "premium" name brand full syn options like Valvoline or Royal Purple

Do folks think it’s worth paying for boutique in a front axle?
I can see it in the rear - but the duty is drastically different …

I run Amsoil Severe Gear in both the front and rear diffs because I buy them for roughly the same cost as Valvoline or Mobil 1. Difference is usually within a dollar or two per quart.

Really? I have a shelf full of Delvac 1 that was $10/quart …
ASG is in the rear only …

Yes. I paid roughly $17/qt for severe gear, and Valvoline at Walmart is $15ish, with Mobil 1 being $17ish. I qualified for preferred customer pricing. In the future I will have to pay the membership if I want preferred pricing, so I likely will go back to Valvoline.

Nobody qualifies for preferred customer pricing you have to pay a yearly subscription to get it. But if you’re using their products a lot it’s worth paying the yearly subscription to get it. I went with Valvoline 75w90 extended 18 dollars a quart.

You qualify for the preferred customer pricing for free if you spend a certain amount in a year.

That’s not free. Free means zero strings attached. Just like all orders over 100 dollars get “free” shipping. When you have an order of 95 dollars and you spend an extra 30 dollars to get “free” shipping. Nothing is free.

It’s “free” because I would have ordered the products to meet the criteria anyway.

My Taco calls for 75w85 F&R. My 1500 Ram calls for 75w90 F, 75w140 R. My Jeep calls for 80w90 F, 75w140 R.

I run 75w90 in all of them F&R without issue.

That’s still not free. Free would be able to sign up for that service without having to meet minimum purchases. You’re paying for it.

No shipping is ever free. Moving freight costs money. End user pays no matter what. Directly or in the cost of the goods.

But it really seems like you are giving @brandon9715 a big hassle. To what purpose? Why?

They sell Red Line at local parts store and it's cheaper than from amz or any convenient places that I checked. Will be doing transfer case and read diff on daughter's '25 Rav4 at 10k miles or shortly after. Early? Yes, but there are no filters in there so I want to get as much gunk out rather sooner.
