I switching to synthetic oil(mobil 1) for my 99 dodge caravan. I know it's overkill but I want to take good care of this vehicle, It probably won't see too much hard use maybe some light towing. And I always change my oil around 5000km's. My question is whats the best oil filter I can buy, In my old vehicle I was using Motomaster Formula 1 filters (pretty sure it's a Fram like the other motomaster filters). I know Fram isn't great so I'd like to know what people reccomend. (I'm in canada if that matters)
Wlamar there only carries Fram.

Yeah i was planning on avoiding canadian tire, not sure we have carquests here and Napa stores are getting harder to find, guess I'll avoid the large retailers and look for smaller shops.

Would a purlator premium plus be any good? i think they sell those at sears.

pep boys sell purolator. what u can do is go to www.wix.com and find their sites where they have it by ur place. some companies they sell wix and people dont know abotu them. i found companies that way.

Some of the Premium Plus filters have cardboard endcaps now, so I'd avoid them.

As far as Carquests go, I didn't think there were any in my area either, but when I did a google search I found out there are hundreds of these stores all over Canada. So I bet there is one near you. The one nearest my house was tucked away in an industrial area I never would've looked in. I really like their Carquest premium filters.

Danr Carquest is only in ontario, quebec and BC, what about NAPA wich filters are good from them I know we still have NAPA sotres in manitoba they are just hard to find.

If you have NAPA, then go for the NAPA Gold, it is identical to the Carquest Premium (both are made by Dana to identical specifications)

Don't avoid Canadian Tire yet. Ask the parts manager to get the Wix number from the Fram oil filter book. Once, he gets the Wix filter #, he can order the filter for you. It only take 1-2 days to get in. I got my Wix for around $7. It depends on the application for the final price. I always think CT won't have it but at the end they do. I usually ask for the parts manager which is the most knowledgeable. Hope this helps.

I've taken the NAPA (Verdic)brand and the Mopar oil filters apart. To me they are exactly the same inside...both made by WIX.Some Purolater numbers come with cardboard end caps, some don't.I use the Ford oversize Premium Plus's on my Jeeps and they don't have the cardboard end caps.I got a great deal at HomeHardware on the Purolaters and bought a crap load of em'(have 6 Jeeps on my service sheets)..if you know someone that works at D/C they can get the Mopar oil filters at a good employee rate...buy a bunch and stock up...or get the Napa brand...same filter. The Napa store here is slooowly getting the Gold Napa filters and doesn't have the ones I want. The Purolaters do just fine in my applications.

O'Reilly's here sells Wix filters. I think though O'Reilly's are more popular the farther south you get though. But aside from them, Napa and Carquest are your only bets as far as large chains go. There are a few local auto parts stores around (one that sells predominantly high performance parts). If you have any of those in your area check them out as well.
