What filter do you use and why?

"If FRAM was $1.00/each, I'd be using them too."

Tempting, but I don't know

I use PureOnes because they were rated as second best overall in an independent lab test. They were ranked ever so slightly behind the M1 filters, but they're half the price.

You can't even approach The Critic's level of "cheap" Groucho. $$ beg for release from his captivity.

I normally use pure ones's but I have been known
to buy the premium plus or motorcraft ones in the past.. Actually I couldnt find my pure 1 yesterday
so I ended up with a supertech on the ranger. I was cleaning out the storage room and found 3 other purolators that I returned for 2 pure ones today too

Gary, I challenge that remark. Cheapness is relative to the dollars available in one's pocket.

I would challenge anyone to surpass my level.

I've used *several* different brands & types of oil filters- even Fram back before I knew better.

My current oil filter "stash" for the Neon includes over a dozen filters, both regular & oversize, in Wix, Purolator Premium Plus & Purolator-made house brands, plus an AC-Delco and an old Wix-made Penske(K-Mart house brand), plus probably a few more.

Right now I'm almost 600 miles into my Auto-RX clean phase #2. The oil filter on the car right now? A standard-size(coffee mug size) Advance Auto Parts TotalGrip AA-3614, mfg by Purolator.

In case anyone wants to know: The air filter, installed at this oil change, is a Fram Tough-Guard.

(For my application, Fram air filters look as good as any & better than most. I've looked, opened boxes, counted pleats, you name it.

Not yet. Still lookin'. I originally found it about a year ago or so, and if I remember correctly the test was conducted around the year 2000. I will post the link if I can find it.

I use a different filter every time I change my VW's oil, because..........well, I don't know. I guess I would get bored using the same filters all the time.

On my GTI 1.8T, I've used:

Fram EG
Mobil 1
Purolator PP
Purolator P1
Napa Gold

Depends on the car and how long I want to go on the oil. Purolator Pureone is my top filter. For $6 I get excellent filteration capability. Motorcraft is my second pick. I get very good filteration with it as well as other premium features for a great price. And last is the Premium Plus from Purolator. Cheap filter with great filtration and features.
