What does Amazon "Delivery appointment pending" mean?

It may mean it is being shipped by a freight service. Once I bought some brake and fuel likes for my BMW and they were shipped by Fedex freight because the package dimensions were too large for regular Fedex. They did the same thing, calling to arrange delivery.

Its coming via freight service - not UPS, FedEx, USPS, or regular Amazon parcel delivery. Think Estes/Old Dominion/Yellow (YRC)/Saia/ABF/Fedex Freight etc...

They will call you/email you to let you know its arrived at the local distribution center and what day they plan to deliver, which you can change.

Freight services do offer tracking. However, if it has not even shipped yet, there may not be a tracking number assigned yet...
Also depending on the company, their tracking is massively behind. I have had freight companies call to tell me they are about to deliver something that was already delivered weeks prior.

Carrier will contact you to schedule a delivery time
That's just giving you a heads-up

but tracking says it hasn't even been shipped yet. What does that mean?
It means.... it hasn't shipped yet. They aren't using their sprinter-type delivery vehicles for this. As others have said, it's going to ship with a trucking company. Someone at an Amazon warehouse probably has to put this on a pallet and strapped in place and once ready, then they'll call the trucking company. They'll probably show up the following day.

This isn't so much about delivery as why it hasn't even been shipped.
Ask Amazon then. How could anyone here possibly know ?

I think it was 30 years ago when I bought my tow dolley. I would think a company like Amazon has dozens of freight trucks leaving their warehouse every day.

Also very correct! Folks who work regularly with a variety of freight companies know this all too well.

For the OP, I'd just expect a phone call one day...

I'm sure they do. They sell TVs, tires, and scores of other oversized items.

I'm sure they also contract out freight to 100s of companies nationwide.

We service a whole bunch of their vans. They are not owned by Amazon, but by a separate operator company that Amazon contracts with. This relieves Amazon of a bunch of liability

The drivers who bring our packages aren't Amazon employees either. They're employed by the same company that owns the delivery vehicles.

Arrived this morning. Looks good.
