My granddaughter got in trouble for giving a present to another student and calling it a Christmas present. She was told it was more important not to hurt one person's feeling than to share presents or any of the positive messages of Christmas time for everyone else. She was told that #@$%! is a concept that not everyone belives. That's why they can't mention Christmas. This Christmas concept must be really evil and us old folks are just too stupid to see it.

This type of stuff is really upsetting, especially when children are involved. What is so wrong about giving? I think it's important concept for a child to learn regardless of the occassion.

Some interesting thoughts and there are so many I will just respond to what come to mind.

1. For the government and teachers, it's CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS. Now I've got that out of my system.

2. For whoever it was that wanted to move somewhere with shorter summers, well come on up to Wisconsin and you will get your wish. But the taxes suck.

3. Wool socks sounds like a great idea, I will have to look in to that.

4. What do I want for Christmas? The same thing I get every year. To have all of my grandkids gather around the fireplace while I read them the Christmas story from the Bible, then after hot chocolate and marshmellows I read them Twas The Night Before Christmas. Then it's off to bed. The only presents are bought for the grandkids and my wife takes care of that.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

Can't blame all the techers.

I have natural teaching ability. I am better than most teachers I have seen at work.

And, the kids like me, pay attention to me, and cooperate with me.

Hey, if thou art good.... yer' good!!!!!

But, will anybody hire the non-politically correct old fat white guy that can get the job done?

Nope.

I have even been warned as a substitute teacher for various things.

Teachers fear losing their jobs. Unlike some areas, careers.... get booted once and it can be pert' near impossible to be hired as a teacher ever again.

Blame the bureaucrats in the educational system AND the countless whiney parents those bureaucrats have to please.

Also, the lawyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lawsuit crazy parents.

It IS a mess. I don't meet many teachers such as I who "say it like it is" to the kids and I do not mean indoctrinating them, etc. I take great care to clearly pronounce what is my opinion (which I do minimize to a great extreme) and what can be considered fact. I show multiple sides of issues and encourage critical thinking.

Bureaucrats do NOT like that. They want mindless droids to pass the tests so all is okay and the bureaucrats can reap those BIG salaries and get that pension.

It's tough in those classrooms. You walk a tightrope. I do not fear falling so tend to "expand" upon things more than the full-time teachers. Guess what? It is obvious to me and students have said the same; they learn more from me about the subject matter AND life in general than they do their regular teacher.

It's only gonna' get worse.

But, as an old coot, I will be pushing up daisies before the worst hits society.

Bwa hah hah hah hah hah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

obbop

I remember many occasions while in school I got my !!! busted, with straps and very offensive paddels (I'm not saying I didn't deserve the punishment). Are you allowed to conduct such behavioral modification? Yes, this did get my attention and my tendancies were not to perform this same type of behavior. My parents didn't come to my defence. It was my problem and I had to deal with it.

No corporal pumishment in this area.

I suffered the rubber belt to the butt as a kid. I defended myself from attack and was punished alongside the attacker.

I do not trust bureaucrats. If I had a kid they would not be allowed to touch that kid. Suspend, expel, detention...okay. No intentional pain inflicted.

Topic extremely complex.

Consider this: the mantra of "diversity" is shouted long and loud. But, step one iota outside the mould created by bureaucrats, politicians, etc. and look what happens: A TROUBLE MAKER!!!!! BURN HIM!!!!!!! BEAT HIM!!!!! Okay, I exagerated a bit but I believe I got the point across.

Yet, public education FORCES a diverse bunch of younguns to CONFORM to a very narrow avenue of what is considered correct and proper.

I dunno' about thee but I was ready for military service at 15 years vice the 17 when I entered. It would have been better for me to have had a "time out" for a couple years military then return to school. Heck, I probably coulda' took a few classes in the military to finish high school.

Also.... it disgusts me the way the bureaucrats and SO many teachers (all college grads) can not seem to think of anything but kids going on to college.

Let it be known that some kids voice LOUD approval when I tell of options other than college. Oh, sure, I tell of college being good for some, but not all!!!!!

I have had soooooo many kids thank me for telling them the truth instead of throwing the same old bee ess at 'em!!!

If I had kids I would do what I could to keep them out of the AVERAGE public school with its narrow-mindedness and demand for conformity.

(to be continued)

Rich folks.. the elite class. VERY few send their kids to public schools. Sure, everything has exceptions. Some elites live in areas so exclusive the public schools are more akin to the British style "public school" where the wealthy mingle, where the uppercrust gather and the commoners excluded. Still, there ARE a lot of "finishing schools" etc. where the uber wealthy send their spawn. Why?

They do not want their kids brainwashed, to learn subservience. The elite's kids are being prepared for their "proper position" in society and you do not learn the proper mind-set in a place where the commoners congregate.

COMPLICATED TOPIC ALERT!!!!!!

Need a multitude of books to cover the complexity of public education!!!!!

Summation time: from my admittedly limited experience interacting with educators, I have noticed that the profession is extremely inbred. Graduate high school. Graduate college. Become a teacher or administrator. Perhaps teach awhile then become an administrator.

The typical teacher/administrator is a specialist.

The world is BIG!!!!!! The minds in the educational field tend to be small. Small in experience. Narrow world views. Brainwashed by the idiocy seen in colleges of education that train teachers.

BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel sorry for the kids I teach. Folks, I have had MANY students proclaim publically their desire that I be their teacher. I can see why. Their regular teachers are way too often boring droids with no enthusiasm for the job, for life, for ANYTHING!!!! Robot-like!!!!!

Wanna' like, totally blow a class full of student's minds? Like, yah' know, here's how to do it:

Apologize if you make a mistake a kid points out. And, say it as if you mean it.

Wanna' keep their attention? Don't teach everything in the book just because it's there. And, make a goofy face now and then.

Enter the room, go to the front of the class, stand, then slowly turn your head back and forth, staring, not saying a word. After 3 minutes the giggles grow to laughter. As the laughter dies down, in a deep voice, tell the class they are the most handsome Earth creatures you have seen since landing on the planet.

Goofy? Yeah. But, they are MINE for the rest of the period.

I have a thousand little tricks/stunts/gags/silly comments/etc to liven the kids day and get them thinking.

Seniors today who had me for a student teacher when they were in 8th grade still talk about the "pet" I kept on my desk. A canned ham. A small canned ham. Goofy? Yeah. But, the kids love it and they pay attention to me.

Teacher leaves me a movie to play for my sub duties. Love it!!! Easy money. No work. But..... the movie about the "old west" and the AmerIndians versus the expanding USA was, at most, a Grade D movie. TERRIBLE!!!!! LAME!!!!! I LOVE history!!!! I constantly read non-fiction books about the all kinds of history and consider the History Channel on TV to be super-neato. But, even I could not stand the film.

What to do? Sit there like a lump and bore the kids to tears? NO WAY!!!!! Put the VHS on fast forward, turn down the sound, then stand by the TV and point while making stupid comments. That woke the kids up!!!! They loved it!!!! And, the 20 minutes left allowed me to shoot the breeze about the 1850 to 1900 or so period. Told about a brave strong people; both Indian and non-Indians. Told about lifestyles, methods of fighting, how Indians survived.... just a whole bunch of stuff. Kids loved it. And, at the end of class, they said their regular teacher never taugh that way, that I KNEW the subject.

But......... I do not have to nor am I expected to have a certain percentage of the kids pass some lame test that has nothing to do with getting by in the REAL WORLD!!!!!!

Okay, complex topic. I rambled enough. I just feel sorry for students having to put up with an educational system so gosh darn constrictive and that seems to fear critical thinking and independent thought.

I want to meet Tony/Bio-T. He is a very close friend of mine, yet I have never personally met him. I would like to be able to get away for a week and meet him in person.

obbop,
same when I'm tutoring. Grab the vinegar and carb soda. Get them to balance their equations, then do the mixing. Make soap, biodiesel, crack water.

I had a teacher (Kingsley Alan), when I was around 8. Best thing that ever happened in my learning, as he was a "hippy", afro hair, musical, mathematical genius (oft goes with music), and would let us kids sleep at our desks (if we were on top of the subject)...but would know how to keep us engaged for hours on taxing subjects.

I've got a friend (science teacher) who was wargame champion of the country a couple times (hannibal's elephants versus blackhawks)...he knows his stuff and is persecuted by the "system", as he holds free tutorials for students..in PUBLIC places (he meets them at cafes and libraries, so that there's no suspicion, and everyone gets supicious because he's in public).

That's censorship for no good reason. It's her right to call it whatever she wants. How many people are actually offended by the fact that another person has religious beliefs? That teacher is having trouble distinguishing between expression of one's self and a school policy designed to avoid making students feel left out of school-run activities. I'd put a "Merry Christmas" shirt on her for the rest of the month!

joee12: Great idea. Who wants to meet up at the Holiday Inn in Springfield, MO on December 27th, then head down to Arkansas to see Tony. I'm in for the trip.

For Christmas, I want a supercharger for my Mercury Marauder. Oh wait, it's already ordered! It's coming in January.

More importantly, I want my family to have a safe, healthy, and happy year.

Oh, and a few more cases of Royal Purple would be nice!
