What do you guys think of the new Nissan 400z?

I like it. I think the new body is a proper evolution of the Z shape. I do not like the flat rear panel and the tail lights, those need to fit in better with the overall design.

I like that it will exist. I most likely will not be interested in buying one. As I already have a Sportscar I'm happy with.

These were the best Z's Nissan ever made:

I give them credit for building it. The Datsun/Nissan Z's have always been a ton of fun for not too much bread.
For me, there are more fun cars available today. But anyone who buys one of these is in for a blast!

I had a 370Z, and it was too rough around the edges for me. Transmission would grind, suspension had horrible rebound control, are my two main complaints. Also, the clutch was super annoying with 90% of the active engagement coming at the top 10% of travel.

Another way of looking at this is that it's still going to be slower than a Mustang GT or Camaro, cost more, and probably have a nicer interior. Hopefully they fix the really ugly aspects like I listed above, although I eventually learned to live with the clutch. And yes, when it would grind, I was SURE the clutch was on the firewall. Redline even came out with a fluid specifically for this gearbox it was so bad. Helped a little.

Yeah, I’d love a new Japanese affordable sports car arms race again, like we had in the late ‘80s and ‘90s!
Me too! We had so many good offerings to choose from!
300ZX
3000GT
Supra
NSX
SVX
RX-7

Did I leave any out?
Accounting for inflation, none of those vehicles were really that cheap... a 1990 Supra with an auto started at $25,950 in 1990, adjusted for inflation it would cost $51,605.75 today. A 2020 3.0 Supra starts at $50,990.

Yup, I've done the math on numerous cars. They are cheaper today, not even accounting for how much better MOST are. The 2JZ was still a better engine than the BMW though.

Another thing about those 90's Japanese sports cars, is that they were built like tanks. They were built to last. Lots of real metal and glass. Really heavy durable cars. Not all this plasticy flimsy crap they're making currently. That was one of the attributes the car reviewers would say about them, how incredibly sturdy the construction of those cars were.
