What do you folks use for rear brake calipers?

Good morning BITOGERS. what I am asking is what tool do you folks use to push the rear brake caliper piston back inside to allow you to installl new pads? I isially jist crack the line going to the caliper and then push piston back. Dunno if there’s a tool for this or m……

Thank You
A C-clamp is fine unless you need to rotate the piston to get it back in.

When you have multiple pistons I often use an old brake pad to push both pistons back at the same time.

you asked generic question then complain when peoples answers aren't directly applicable to what you are working on?
try adding more details to initial question as the responses seem to bother you.

FWIW: I use a c-clamp, and the ratcheting brake spreader tool so far., had to use needlenose once. and
using youtube to find the secret way to do parking brake retraction without a bi-directional scan tool.
The cube is on my list of tools to buy.
Yeah right. What a joke. If you and anyone read I specifically asked for tool for rear caliper. How the hell more easy can it get to give an answer????? A C clamp WILL NOT work. Why folks said this is just nuts. Christ I even told everyone what I work on in terms of years of vehicle wise. I now am absolutely positive folks here don’t listen or read what I write and or they just give what works for them.

Don’t ever tell me to elaborate or make it more simple; as this is pathetic.

TOTAL DISCLAIMER: I WORK ON BRAND NEW VEHICKES AND DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS. NOTHING OKDER THAN 4 YEARS. ALL STUFF I WORK ON HAS REAR DISC BRAKES WITH ELECTRONIC PARK BRAKE SO C CLAMP ETC ETC DO NOT WORK. THAT SIMPLE.

I can’t believe the stupid and misinformation posted here. I see no one knows what I am talking about. Wonder what replies be if I posted a pic. Probably dumber than current replies

A lot of Euro stuff I do requires that the caliper piston be rotated while compressing it. I use this kit from ECS Tuning:

More recent cars with electronic e-brakes, I have to use a diagnostic tool such as Ross-Tech or OBD11 to retract the pistons. Otherwise I use a racheting spreader tool from Lisle, which is similar to what the murky pee odor altering vegetable suggested above 😁.
I got harbor freight version of this. I know it works.

sometimes when you think everyone else is the problem it is yourself.

For example there are many new cars you can still use a c-clamp or the ratcheting spreader tool on.. not all need twisted in. You dont list what car you were working on.
We are supposed to be mind readers?
That will NOT work. Piston pushes back counter clockwise
It would work just fine on a 2022 forester for example.

You should probably get the Cube tool.

You are now officially ignored due to ignorance. I already said 2024 VOLVO S60 sedan. How much more simple do I have to make this?????

Nice insult bout me being “the problem”. You didn’t offer a tool suggestion at all for the vehicle. Only Kia and Hyundai do not use electronic park brake on some models. I see many makes models daily.

Next time lay off your dumb sarcasm and making someone feel like 💩💩💩 and help the person. Right now I’m so let down by folks suggesting something that won’t work.

these work good on many of the non twist in type too

I actually did suggest the cube if you need to twist retract.

However, I missed S60 in your first post still seems missing. You also dont mention its a twist to retract caliper.
lacking details question = ?? pisses you off when people give you answers? = your error.. needed a better question with details.

The cube and a C clamp can be used together. One of the rears on my wife’s Corolla simply would not screw in no matter him much I turned it, but when I used a clamp to jam the cube hard into the caliper and turned it with an extension the threads apparently caught and then it would turn the rest of the way. This was only a problem on one side for some unknown reason.

The cube or the style someone suggested I have already. I’ll elaborate that most stuff I work on has twist in caliper design. The one you linked with paddles I just never bought yet. 99% of stuff I work on has twist in calipers on tears.

I was pissed yes but now everyone knows 99% stuff I see daily uses rear electronic park brake and counter clockwise twist in style. As stated I did few new as in 1 year old Hyundai/Kia that don’t have counter clock twist style and no electronic e brake. So I’ve saw a lot.

Sorry to go off on everyone even you Rand. Next time I’ll enclose much info as possible
