Put them in 5 gallon jug and collect 3 at a time, then drive to local Kragen to dump in their tank and bring back a couple case of 49c after rebate oil, again and again.
I take my covered drain pan, put it in the trunk and take it to the city recycling center along with my paper, plastic, glass and used batteries (alkaline and lead-acid). They also take food-type cans and provide free salt for residents during winter. It's a good service and is convenient for me since I go by there once a week anyway.
My county has a recycling center that takes used oil. A restaurant gives them empty 5 gal veggie oil containers which they give out for free. When it gets full I take it over.
I set mine by the curb. The recycle trash guy unscrews the lid and smells it to make sure it is just oil. Then he takes it away. I wonder if he is high by the end of the day?
New York State requires retailers that sell over a fixed number of gallons per year, only ones that basicly arent rweuired are convience stores, drug stores, gorcey stores, to accept used oil. Mine goes back to Advance Auto.
I dump all my old oil, trans fluid and gear lube into a big 5 gallon jug (frying oil container used by restaurants) and drop it off at Autozone when it's full.
