What dehumidifier(s) are you keeping in your gun safe?

I bought a Winchester 36 gun safe at Tractor Supply a month ago. I also bought a Hornady Rechargeable dehumidifier(the one that plugs into a 120v outlet to dry) and I also ordered a hydrometer on Amazon.

As soon as I put the hydrometer in the safe when I got it, it shows the humidity only getting as low as 48% and as high as 52% for the first week. After it not dropping below 48% after the second week, I plugged the dehumidifier in for the 12 hours that it says it needs and it made no difference. I noticed the silica beads were pink which means they are saturated so I plugged it in for a second round to dry and the beads didn’t change color to signify they had dried.

So I ordered a SafeNDry XL on Amazon a week ago and also picked up two of the Hornady dehumidifier bags from tractor supply. Hydrometer is now showing 46% as of me typing this and I also added some 1/8 weather stripping to the edge of the inside frame for the door.

Edit: my safe does not have the pre-drilled hole for an electrical cord for a golden rod*

We used a lot of desiccant at work and they would throw it away when it was changed out . I started saving it and brought home a big bucket of it . I took a plastic jar with a screw on lid and drilled some holes in it . It's easy to dry it out in the oven and fill my container . It lasts for months so it must be pretty dry inside .

This popped up last night and gave me a stroke... my better guns are in a safe and the basic ones are in a spare bedroom but I have been busy with other things and it kept me up all night.. visions of rust and mold etc... geez.. the safest are in the so called basement...bi-level first floor

I grabbed a few now...they felt damp but I suspect just cold... it's been a long time...

This is my Harry Payne Whitney Purdey . He married his neighbor Gertrude Vanderbilt...
