What "car" lubes/cleaners do you use on your gun?

on my radio control cars/trucks we use castor oil in the nitro fuel, cause it holds up to more heat than any oil. would that work in firearms? or is that much heat not needed?

I lube my guns with synthetic motor oil. Not sure what I have in the small bottle I use but it's probably some German Castrol.

To those of you that are using brake parts cleaner,... use at your own risk around night sights. I learned the hard way. YMMV. And yes I used the non-chlorinated.

Oh man, not even in a firearms forum are we free of that great debate :P

I use Kroil for used guns as part of the clean up process. Really penetrates into gummed up areas. Loosens parts right up.

India pale ale? You use beer?????

I've been warning people about this and they "shushed" me!!

IPA = Isopropyl Alcohol

Same risk with Gun Scrubber, Tetra's spray sovlent or Breakfree's. Very very similar in contents.

I use my own variant of Ed's Red which uses some John Deere Hy-Gard Low-Viscosity Transmission/Hydraulic Oil, LC-20 and a bit of Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer (LSOS is from my pre-BITOG days!), along with MEK, kerosene, Stoddard Solvent, and toluene. The first three are the "car" items of course. The LSOS will not go into solution unless the MEK is added.

Needless to say, I don't get this stuff anywhere near my polymer-frame SIG's!

It works well for me.
