If acetone eats plastic, how is it sold in a plastic bottle as nail polish remover?

Not all plastic is the same.

Firearms are not made out of polyethylene plastic, the stuff in which acetone is sold.

How do you know if acetone will damage the plastic on your gun?

After it happens - by which point, it’s too late.

Been using Ed’s Red for about 20 yrs now, it’s effective, cheap, and easy to mix up. Never had an issue using it on polymer-framed pistols, but I definitely wouldn’t soak one in it. I always wipe the Ed’s Red off any polymer surface immediately after contact, but I’d do the same with any other solvent too.
