Using Motor Oil for Gun Lube

Cool story

I’ve been in Honduras, Panama, Philippines and other tropical rainforests and guns rusted with motor oil, rust was a problem with CLP and other oils, anybody who tells you guns don’t rust if you use XYZ is lying they all rust

In the jungle if you do not leave a thin coat of protective oil on the outside of your weapon, it will rust before you finish taking a 💩

If you do it properly it’s not slippery

Bersa pistols are one step below HiPoint, pure junk…
If you disagree with another person, you could disagree in a polite, respectful manner. There's no reason to be aggressive, rude and offensive. Bad manners and profanity are the crutches of a weak mind, a poor argument, and a poor character. Your manners are a reflection of who you are.

I said I live in a rain forest climate. My guns have not rusted.

So you live south by the equator and not in CONUS as nowhere in the US of A presents as a tropical rain forest climate

Tell me you have lived in Honduras, Philippines or Panama to name a few different countries and used motor oil and never rusted

Or are you blowing smoke and live in the PNW and claiming that’s a like a tropical rain forest

Let’s lay off the personal criticism, please.

Personal perspective (and I have said this before) guns aren’t picky.

The act of lubrication is more important than the lubricant.

If your gun doesn’t run after being properly lubed, that’s a gun problem, not a lubricant problem.

That said, it takes about 5 drops of oil to properly lubricate a semi-auto pistol. My first 2 oz bottle of gun oil lasted for nearly 15 years. I am running HPL’s gun oil. At $9.99 for 4 oz, you are paying about 2 cents for each pistol you lubricate, assuming you use the appropriate amount and don’t slather it everywhere. (By the way, 20 drop/ml, and 120 ml in the bottle, if you care to check my math).

2 cents for boutique gun oil each time I clean/lube a gun.

That’s not a significant factor.
