What can Valvoline do to top Restore and Protect?

Fair enough - aside from Walmart - guess it helps to have 1900 quick lubes pushing that product - and still pushing frequent oil changes …
I think that will become a problem as competition for raw ingredients will come to a head - hopefully more will learn to trust their vehicle/OEM OLM more …
I don't think you'll find Restore and Protect at a Valvoline quick lube. Not that I've ever been to one, but I just don't think it will happen.

After seeing this I was curious, so called a couple of Valvoline quick service places near me and they said they do have Valvoline Restore and Protect 0w20, 5W-20 and 5W-30.

I ran it in my Silverado 5.3 liter for 4000 miles. When I drained it, it was not very dirty. Cut the oil filter open and it looked normal. What shocked me was the apparent viscosity break down of the oil. It was as thin as water. I missed my catch pan with stream because it shot 6" past pan. I have never seen oil break down this thin. The oil was not fuel or water contaminated. It was at proper fill level on dipstick prior to drain. No gasoline smell. No signs of water. Just extremely thin.

What was the viscosity in the used oil analysis at 100C? That's all that matters, not your perception of it being extremely thin.

How do you know it wasn’t fuel or water contaminated as you said? I absolutely believe you when saying you never seen oil do that before, but curious how you can say it was thinner and it wasn’t because of fuel dilution or some thing else. Did you have an oil analysis done?

I can't guarantee no fuel contamination but I am confident there was none. I have seen fuel contamination many times over my 40 years of doing maintenance. Oil had no signs of it. No fuel smell. No fuel diluted feel. Engine it came out of has no known issues. Oil level was exactly where it should have been at that drain milage.
As to water, not milky when it sat overnight. Coolant level of engine exactly where it should be.

Any xW-20 or xW-30 is going to look like it's "water thin" when draining it hot shortly after shutting down the engine at full operating temperature.
 
It looks and behaves thin, but not this thin.
Highly doubt the viscosity sheared that much from being used for 4000 miles in a low revving V8. People who do used oil analysis on Valvoline Restore and Protect show little shear down in viscosity. Like mentioned by others, only a used oil analysis could confirm.

Then came even Tighter Regulations on Eff%
Then came ,so many Freaking Oil Additive Packs - can't even Keep Up

Then came Super High Eff% Turbo that Bring Power & Heat Lower in Rev. Range . .

Then came " LSPI - Events " do due to Fuel Evaporation & Higher Compression with Early Spin Up Turbo's

Then Came Super High Heat - Events - that - Cook Off Center Stack Communications $3.5K and or
Melt Catalytic Convertor .. 3K Cost to Repair ..

I'm Sure Not Mentioning Other Events along way ..

Each Time = More $ $ $ $ $

Now there are Law Suites ~ Over ~ Right to Repair Your Own Machine . . with even More $$$$$ Involved ..


Oil Corps Knew about LSPI Events Long before Public did or Mechanic's Caught On .. 8Yrs Min.


Now we have Add On Fuel Injection ~ to ~ Prevent Carbon Build Up . .
