Someone told me of a transmission ATF that is clear colored and is made for heavy duty use. I also heard that racers have been using it in in TransBrake situations and have had no breakages, with the same engine in front with just a fluid change. Is this the JOhn Deere tractor fluid? Please don't jump my #@$%! on this. In my job, we use this stuff for some pretty HEAVY duty pulling,

Trying to find out if there is a "ATF" that is beyond GM's rating and honestly has some capability of taking heat well. Dexron VI looks promising, but when you have a 3/4th gear issues with a transmission for many years, then you add twice the power to it, you need all the help you can to allow your transmission to live.

I'm sorry, what I meant was can you describe the application. There is a good reason for the question and if you would rather do a PM then that's ok.

The application is actually my vehicle, a 93 Vette for drag racing.
The use we use the fluid for in the other application I cant talk about. But some engineer that works with us was telling us this fluid that John Deere has made for them is clear, and when drag racers used it with transmission brakes (which is a severe heat build up) they have no failures.

1/4 mile shouldn't be heating an ATF too much.

Some of the tractor or hydraulic fluids are not friction modified and slip less then newer ATFs.

Redline and Amsoil have full synthetic type-F ATF's if that is what you're looking for.

All transmissions will fail if capacity is exceeded. Don't let anyone kid you that a certain fluid eliminates failures. Sure, a fluid can be a bandaid. But the upgrades and components used, are what make one transmission last longer then another.

Another choice is the powershift fluids. These are available in several weights. A thicker fluid would help if you have no control over temperatures. Powershift is available in 10w, 30, and 50 weights.

If you're having issues with the 3/4 pack, find a new builder. The OEM and aftermarket have a gazillion improvements for the th700.

Well let me tell you that certain fluids can make a HUGE difference to friction durability, even on the same material in the same operating system.
The tractor fluids are generally friction modified (they have to deal with wet brakes in many applications) but they use different FMs to those that are used in ATFs.
Another problem with using STOUs or UTTOs is that whilst they may give better wear protection they are by no means as thermally stable.
So, you have to figure out the best compromise.
That's why I was asking about the application.

The factory transmission was just old and needed a rebuild after the 396 was put in, that I prepared for. Here in Hawaii you dont have much for builders per sey. SO, I researched all the bells and whistles, went to a reputeable shop and rebuilt it accorsing to what the forums stated. It ran good till the TV cable popped and at the fluid pressure changed, causing it to overheat and die. The third build I am on now is only about 500 miles out, and going into fourth on the highway at morethan half throttle for example, causes it to slip terribly. I have the pressure set right for this model and what is on th ehigh side.I have twop coolers, one internal 7 row in the BeCool radiator, and an external 24000 GVW one. ANywyas, I am trying to make this last. ANy adive on a specific fluid that proves itself to handle extreme temps which would help parts last I believe would be great.
Can you tell me more of these Powershift formulas?

A simple trick is to use a bigger transmission oil pan, possibly with vent tubes running through it.
The larger amount of oil held simply takes longer to heat up to critical temps.

I dont have the clearance as the low point is 4 inches on my Vette.

Add a remote fluid tank using the cooler lines or use an old style fuel cooler can to hold and extra 4 quarts.

The highest I have seen with my LASER temp gun is 180, by pulling the dipstick out and shooting. Not the most accurate, but thats all I have for now.
The extra cooler sounds good, if I had a place to put it.
I have a BeCool radiator with a 7 row cooler internal and a 24000GVW external cooler.

Try a cold can in the back of the car or somwhere under the hood or just coils of extra cooler lines with heat sink fins under the hood.

A dual remote full flow ATF filter can also had between 2-4 quarts depending on filter chosen.

If it slips terrible, its a bum rebuild. No temp control, fluid, or cooler can fix a questionable build!
