Finally got back on the t-case for the '05 Chevy. I had ordered a new rear case half and decided to use it. The snap ring groove in the old one seemed about twice as wide as the new one, but I'm not sure this was due to abnormal wear.

I did this in the truck. Ready for rear half:

The chain plus gravity wants to pull the mainshaft down and left. Through random trial and error I found a 39mm 12pt socket fits the output splines really well. With this and an extension I was able to manipulate the mainshaft to get the rear case to line up

I had some old Proto snap ring pliers that I was happy to modify. I took 3/4" off the handles so they'd fit in the available Z space under the body

I also opted to "widen" them by building up the jaws with weld. It looks horrendous but worked really well. I was going to add a crude cross-hatch pattern with my engraver but it wasn't necessary. This allows me to more easily spread the ring without maxing the tool travel.

Getting our 2023 Wolf Pup 14CC travel trailer ready for the season. Planning a trip to Maine in May, and figured it would be good to check out the wheel bearings and brakes, they haven't been serviced since I bought it new. Cleaned and repacked the bearings, and found that the rumors about them being a bit sparse on the wheel bearing grease at the factory are true. Races and rollers looked fine, though. Got to try out my new Lisle bearing packer, and that works great. Fresh grease in the bearings, new dust seals, and the brakes are A-OK. Ready to hit the road!

Dakota is back together, I think its quieter up front but can’t decide. Did put a combo of 10w30 and 15w40 back in. Couldn’t get the oil pan out so just cleaned the surfaces, put the rtv in the corners front and back and snaked it in around the oil pump. Maybe dumb not to pull it all the way but don’t see how it would of got higher and not broke something.

The coolant was bugger to bleed but not seeing any leaks. Put all gaskets on without RTV. So it’ll either leak worse, less or about the same 🤣 This engine was a nightmare of SAE and metric.

I also ranted about the engine mounts in the ZJ I previously mentioned being 11/16". Yeah, it's a common size for 7/16" nuts but still rare in general.

Probably the only fasteners on the vehicle needing 11/16". And yes, I tried everything metric that was close.

I never figured out the head size of the mount bolts, the nut size was 21mm. 3/4 was a little big. There was no consistency to the sizes. Most were 5/8 and 1/2 but they didn’t stick one size on the same piece anywhere except the oil pan.

Working on my 2001 Chevy Blazer 4 door 4x4 right now as I type this.

Working on something simple this time. I’ve spent countless hours doing big jobs on this thing for preventative maintenance, and to get it super reliable and dependable even for really long trips. I’ve had this truck for over 2 years now. This vehicle is the vehicle I trust the most now, even more than my 2010 ford Taurus SHO.

But anyways, my blazers washer fluid tank started leaking out all the washer fluid about a year ago. I’ve been too lazy to fix it for the longest, and having pollen cover up my windshield is getting very annoying, and not having washer fluid is pissing me off. The washer pumps also seized up due to it not being used for a year, so they don’t work anymore. So I decided to get some Acdelco washer pumps, and I’m replacing the pump right now as I’m typing this.

The gasket that seals the washer tank to the washer pump was the culprit for the leak, and I’m glad the new washer pumps come with new seals.

Also while I’m at it, I’m putting on some silicone wiper blades. The blades were expensive, but it should last years and years based on the reviews I’ve read.
 
Putting the '05 Silverado back together. The bro dozer exhaust got in the way of the traditional c-clamp style torsion key tool, but taking it apart is easy.

I knew I'd need some way to put it back together so ordered this u-bolt style tool. The exhaust is still in the way a little and I pushed it up into the body with a stand, but the tool worked pretty well

1993 Volvo 240 Classic sedan, 251,400 miles

New radiator, cooling system flush 2x, new thermostat, cleaned thermostat housing, new hoses and constant pressure clamps, Volvo OE coolant and distilled water

A/C condenser cleaned with Simple Green Aviation and rinsed in both directions

Well, I still don't know where the small EVAP leak is
Maybe I'll pull the back seat up and check the fuel pump next time

Did the o rings on the Civic P/S pump, I chose to pull the cowl and do the job from up top

I put an ignition switch and a negative battery cable, as they were both original and worn
It starts instantly now, so that's good

And I blew a tire on the Fusion, because they've got the Gowanus milled up to the on ramp of the Verrazano
That was a fun tire change @9pm with trucks flying by 🙁

Had a long week of grass fires and one house fire in addition to working two jobs. I ran the tanker on all of our calls for the week.

Yesterday I changed the oil in my Deere 1025r and installed the 60D mower deck I bought for it. Had to install all of the brackets and adjust the auto connect system. Then I started on an old Allis Chalmers square baler I bought with knotter problems. I promptly make more problems when I forced it to run a tie cycle at idle not realizing there was more damage than what I could see and broke one of the twine needles (obsolete). Then got my old service truck fired up and moved after it has sat for 5-6 years. Then got one of our old Volkswagen cars fired up to move out of the way and get it ready for sale. A hot battery and some starting fluid and the little 4cyl diesel popped right off.

Today I sharpened blades on the Deere 757 zero turn and my parents Cub Cadet ZTR. Then I pressure washed the Volkswagen. Interior is still trashed and it’s going to stay that way. That’s a new owner’s problem. I have a VW Rabbit that will go with this Jetta as a package.

After changing my struts I noticed the stabilizer link seal were ripped. So yesterday had the time to do them and the rear shocks. So first I need a space and that means moving the covered F-100 out of the driveway for the Focus parked behind. It is early so why not take a 40 mile RT in the truck to exercise it. Back home and look at the Mustang in the garage which was in front of the F-100. I can get it out and it has been two months so lets do it. Another 40 mile RT. Two very different rides unique in their own way. Both super tight and less than 10,000 miles on rebuilt engines. Now I am ready. Get home, move the Focus in, and finish the days task with Motorcraft links and shocks.

Beautiful truck!! I have a 65 Mercury that’s basically identical but I left it in Saskatchewan about 25 years ago and it hasn’t moved since.

I hope to bring it out my way and get it back on the road.
