What are you working on today?

Last night, some new Hondas checked in and inspected and PDI’d. The 2018 F-250 plow truck got an oil change and tire psi check. Has the 6.2 Godzilla engine in it. Oil only had 350 miles on it. Greased zeros on salt spreader and anywhere else.
Isn’t the Godzilla the 7.3l gas?

Coolant drain/fill - 2009 VW CC 2.0TSI EA888.1 now at 141,000mi. Water pump and coolant done back in April 2017 @ 83,000mi. Will do a simple drain from the radiator and aux pump and fill/drain with distilled until clear. Ravenol G12+ going back in.

Today
2017 Chevrolet Equinox

More work on neighbor's '01 TJ. I found a floor mat seriously mashed and folded under the pedals. Not sure if this is a TJ floor mat, it may have come from their WK2 Grand.

So, I decided to drill holes in the neighbor's floor while he's out of town:

Installed nutserts (I later vacuumed the chips):

The mat had really taken a set so I figured some serious heat from the double barrel would loosen it up:

I turned some 1/4" carriage bolt heads to about ~.545" so they'd just squeeze through the grommets:

Replaced whole front end suspension past few weeks on my 05 Camry.
Replaced ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, and control arms. Also replaced squeaky front left strut.

Encountered some mishaps that took a bit longer than anticpated, and resulted me having to replace my right CV axle as well.

Needed to pull CV axle to reach ball joint castle nut but there was a problem. Previous alignment shop "staked" my axle nut and did a poor job doing so. Did my best to unstake it but still ended up stripping the threads. Needless to say I'm not using that alignment shop again.

On the brightside, my car now feels a lot less loose/play when turning. Surprised that my Camry lasted this long with original parts, just reached 242K miles at nearly 20 years old.

So far I've put ~150 miles on my newly-acquired 68k-mile Copart 1995 Cadillac Seville so far, and other than a nagging CEL that I need to chase down this spring the car runs absolutely flawlessly. Now that I know she's a keeper, I went ahead and knocked out as much maintenance as I could while we had nice weather up here in the Midwest:

Oil and filter change with 8 quarts of ST 10W30 HM FS and a Fram Ultra
8 quarts of fresh Dex VI with new sump screens
Bando serpentine belt to replace what looked like the OE belt
Air and fuel filters (both also looked OE)
WM Group 78 battery
Pair of Hella wiper blades
New Vosla +120 headlight bulbs (high/low)

I've got an appointment at WM on Thursday to have 4 new Kumho KU27's installed, after that she should be 100% ready to cruise anywhere.

Was not expecting this from someone with your expertise!

This is like Andy Reid saying, "I've got an appointment Thursday with the local pee-wee league coach to discuss our Super Bowl strategy."

I couldn't agree more... unfortunately I no longer have access to a tire machine otherwise I'd be doing them myself just like any other repair. Deere just has a little manual changer for doing tubes, otherwise everything is sub'd out.

Luckily for me, my local WM tire center actually does very good work. This will be the 4th set I've had them install, the other 3 vehicles all came back just fine balance/lug nut torque wise. I could have used the shop that I had do the tires on my Regal, but they charge $10 more per tire and this Seville is all about budget.

New pw regulator guide bar in '04 Ranger. This is not a phenomenal design and in time a tiny bit of wear allows the window to cock when rolling up, slowing it considerably.

This is not sold as or technically considered part of the window regulator itself. This is OEM only and I got a good price on ebay of around $68.

Here's the old one removed:

New installed:

To remove I undid the top and bottom nuts, swiveled it 90 and brought it up off window regulator rotating ball-thing:

I ordered Dorman peel rivets 700-616 to reanchor the glass and used an Astro blind rivet tool (not to be confused with their rivnut tools, but same concept)

I've been paying attention to my '23 Explorer ST the last couple weeks.. It has been mostly dormant for most of '24 and required thorough cleaning, polishing, and 3 tire replacements including 2 due to bad rear-wheel alignment that I did't see until too late. Will be finished washing and polishing tomorrow.. Have 3 new tires coming, and am I'm REALLY tired of paying $500 per tire for these premium Continental all-seasons, so I have 3 inexpensive Arroyos coming.

This gorgeous Ford has Eibach lowering springs and a Thermal cat-back exhaust system installed, and soon it'll have HUGE brakes instead of the shamefully tiny originals.

The lowering and wheels on this explorer look real, real good. Nice eye for the work. Seems a shame to run cheap tires on it.

Water pump on the Ford 500 today. I am certain it was original I don't know how it was water pumping. LOL. Impeller was rubbing on the housing and tons of play. I'm guessing since it is cam driven it kept it centered. Worst I have personally ever seen. Thing still runs like a top and it took only about an hour.

I ordered some rubber trim from Amazon about a month ago. It’s round and hollow. I get atrocious wind noise. With 50 degree weather I installed it today. Added it just above where the factory trim is on the inside of the door frame. It helped but didn’t stop the noise completely. I was told by a mechanic friend to put 1/2 inch cotton clothesline rope through it. It will keep the seal firm and not allow it to collapse. Will try thathe next warm spell we get!
