What are you working on today?

Don't see how the box could transfer the fluid through the rag joint & steering shaft.

There is/was grease in that joint, Probably separated & is leaking out the boot.

A leaking input seal will blow fluid everywhere...But the rag joint will be soaked.
I know, I'm a little confused, too. Only happens when running. It's definitely PSF. If I had a YT account I'd post video. It's a pretty steady stream. Wild.

I'll probably disconnect at the input shaft and slide the shaft back, at which point it should be coming from the input seal.

You have my attention!! How does the PSF travel past the rag joint? It's in no way sealed.

The input seal is ahead of the rag joint anyway.

I got the new AC Delco plugs installed in my Cadillac this afternoon, here's what the old Champions looked like as a set. Odd cylinders on the left, even on the right. The front 4 cylinders appear to be running rich compared to the back 4, but nothing crazy.

Odd, forward cylinders to the left:

Even, forward cylinders right:

I also dropped the transmission pan to cure a leak, the pan had been over tightened at some point which dimpled the pan. I flattened the holes with a ball peen and installed a new Mahle gasket. I specifically chose their gasket due to its cork-metal-cork construction. A new ATP premium filter and 4.5 quarts of Valvoline Dex/Merc also went in.

Done a few brake jobs today. One was insanely rusty and the bolts would not budge with an impact. Had to get my coworker who weighs about 250 come put all his weight and might on it because I couldn’t get it loose with the breaker bar. I feel sorry for the people up north who have to deal with that everyday. Also had a manual Tacoma come in that customer was complaining of a lunge and pull when shifting. I figured they probably didn’t know how to drive it right so the manager said for the customer to take me and another tech on a test drive and see if he could tell us what it was. And each time he was dumping the clutch when he shifted and I’m like uh sir I’m gonna be polite as possible but that’s the problem. He is like nah I don’t think so but I appreciate your time, it’s his first experience with manual and they complained of it Then more nonsense with our lube techs who aren’t competent. One was trying to balance a tire and he didn’t have something right and it flew off the machine and knocked over a bunch of things. Management asked us regular techs why we didn’t say anything to him and we are like well we can’t watch him and do our job too. Then a few of us are like well why is he even doing a tire balance. Then he had a car luckily we could save it because the customer stopped it when the oil light came on but he left the drain plug loose on a Camry and it fell out on a customer in North Carolina traveling in one of our rentals. 2024 Camry that this guy done the 10k service on that’s our rental car. Now the customer probably thinks well they messed up this car so what are they going to do to my car. Not to mention the tow truck fuel plus wasted time and all of that. I have no clue how this guy has worked here for 8 months now. I’m like what’s it going to take for them to fire this guy. I’ve got to figure out a way to bring it up to my boss but I found out he is making a dollar an hour more than me and I certainly won’t have that. I just get so nervous talking to my boss especially about that kind of thing. I’m going to ask some of my coworkers how they would approach it and going to ask my parents too. Because I won’t tolerate that. At this point they should of cut his pay and demoted him at the very least.

I think other members have had this discussion with you before but tell them if you're not paid as a supervisor AND given the title to match, your job is not to supervise others. Your job is to complete YOUR work.

If they want you to babysit others, they can pay you accordingly.

As has been mentioned before, it sounds like time for you to send out resumes and find a job elsewhere paying a more appropriate amount.

Larger shops are suppose to have a Foreman....A salaried senior master mechanic that put's out fire's & keeps an eye on all the apprentices/junior mechanics.
This position rarely exist anymore in the industry, I might still be working for someone if it did.

It's easy for a flat rate mechanic to clap back against such a BS request, Hourly mechanic's don't have that leverage. Depends on the terms of employment.

You really shouldn't discuss compensation with your coworkers, Someone's going to get in their feelings!! You should already make what YOU think is fair, If not....Demand more money!

But you can use this information to your advantage.....Just demand a $3 raise, If they don't give it....You certainly don't need to work there!

No finger pointing or whining to the boss involved.

Oh I don’t discuss pay. He made sure to tell me what it was when he stated that he was the most qualified tech to do tires and tire repairs because of his experience at a chain tire shop. Then said he could easily have another job tomorrow he was just trying to wait for 1 year to see if he gets moved up.

He sold himself & got more money than you, Use the same tactic!

Don't believe everything you hear @AutoMechanic , the guy sounds like a tool. I worked in a dealership before as an apprentice, and the amount of backstabbing and gossiping was horrible. I quit after just a few months as the politics were brutal too. Furthermore, I learned very little there, I felt like I was working on an assembly line.

Exactly why every shop over double digits in mechanic's needs a shop foreman.

I was away for work for a few days. My wife complained she was hot in the house but chalked it up to hot flashes. LOL.. I was home all day today and noticed the house was hot. Then I noticed the thermostat was set at 76F and the house was at 84F. Went outside and noticed the A/C unit was buzzing and not spinning. Threw in a new capacitor that I have stocked up and lo and behold, it fixed it.

I also had to get a new battery candle that my wife bought working. It was a good day for repairs at my house. LOL

Yesterday

The Dakota owners didn't want me to go further on the cam sensor issue, so they picked it up. I was able to mow before another shower settled in. Cleaned up a little in the house.
