What are you working on today?

Co worker has a '16 Ram 1500 with two inop remote keyfobs
Can't have people using a key to unlock the door, what year is this 🙄

Ordered up two basic Mopar Fobiks, had them programmed in ~60 seconds
No call to the dealer for the pin code, it's generated automatically
I gave him two for less than the price of one from any of the local Indy locksmiths/mobile key services

I'm getting pretty good at this 🙂

Spent the weekend running a total of 75’ duct in the attic. Getting ready to fix the bathroom fan into an inline unit with more cfm, and gonna ask the roofer to install the penetration to vent it next week (storm damage, new roof). Built 2 catwalks to get me partway there since I’m not getting any younger and falling is bad. Never had a catwalk in an attic, why hadn’t I thought of this before?

Installed a missing scuff plate and replaced a fan resistor for my 2011 Grand Caravan.

Then I parked it and pulled the TIPM to send it off for rebuild. Removal took about 10 minutes, including grabbing the right sockets and removing the battery. I was fortunate that none of the connections on the TIPM were damaged in any way and they came off readily.

Shipped the TIPM to the rebuilder, and last I checked it should arrive at their shop tomorrow.

Rear brakes on wife's '16 AWD Equinox. Linings came off parking brake shoes binding the LR wheel. Initial thought was rear diff. issues as it was erratic on turns. Parking brake shoes, Element 3 pad/rotor kit from RA for a complete rear brake job parts were $139 w/tax delivered.
I've said before this is one of my biggest (irrational) fears with DIH parking brakes. They lock up, overheat, and at the very least destroy a rotor. Might also cook a wb, too.

What scares me most is you can't see in there. I guess that's true of drums, too....but typically standalone drums are built to be more robust. Most DIH parking brakes seem to take an "eh probably good enough" engineering approach.

Plus it's easier to just slip a drum off for inspection than remove a rotor just to look at a DIH parking shoe assy.

As such, with an automatic I rarely use DIH parking brakes. I agree it's best practice but I've never had a park pawl fail.

And again, I fully agree this is a bit of personal neuroses!

This past weekend I helped a friend out by changing the oil out of his 2018 SeaDoo ski and changed the plugs. I got to use my harbor freight manual pump. Sucked out 3.5 quarts. Put in exactly 3.5 quarts of 5w40. Sea Doo recommends draining, cranking engine for 10 seconds and sucking more out twice. Crazy how much more came out after each 10 second crank.

Then I worked on my mom’s 2010 Santa Fe. Last week I took her to her doctors appointment and when we went to leave I couldn’t get the shifter out of park and the brake lights were not coming on and the traction control or stability control light was on. Just great leaving Center City Philly in rush hour with no brake lights... I ordered a new brake switch and installed and so far no warning light and shifter works normally. Hopefully that does it. The car is starting to nickle and dime her but still vastly cheaper than a new one.

Still working at home. Don't know when I'll be back at my friend's shop as he and his wife are focusing on their Air BnB projects.

Monday

1996 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6
Replaced ignition coil, changed oil

2006 Dodge Dakota 3.7 V6
Started diagnosing a cam position sensor problem, isolated to a short to ground in the cam position signal circuit, haven't gone further

Today
2012 Chevrolet Traverse
Replaced front sway bar links, replaced front brake pads, turned front rotors, rotated tires changed oil

Easy day for a change, 2013 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L/A6MF2. Came in a with a P0711 for trans temp sensor performance.
Freeze Frame showed 4°F....If it were a shorted or open in the wiring I'd expect to see the upper or lower extreme of the sensor range (Usually -40°F to 300°F)

Installed a new sensor & pan gasket, Refilled with Maxlife multi vehicle. Refilling these suck as you have to dribble all 4 quarts through the vent.

Also my neighbor's '85 K20 is spraying PSF from the steering shaft dust boot. But not down at the rag joint at the steering box.

Still, this kinda has to be the box input seal? @clinebarger ever seen this?

Don't see how the box could transfer the fluid through the rag joint & steering shaft.

There is/was grease in that joint, Probably separated & is leaking out the boot.

A leaking input seal will blow fluid everywhere...But the rag joint will be soaked.

Finally finished up the transmission fluid replacement today. I was short about 1.6 quarts a couple days ago and filled the Matrix's transmission up with Amsoil Signature. Hopefully, in three years, the fluid will hold up because I will not be checking again any time soon.

2000 Ford Taurus 3.0 pushrod V6

Made holes in drywall today, ran a switched electric circuit a short run and installed one of two filtered return register. It’s a lot hotter up there than it was this weekend; didn’t last long.
