The wife's '08 F150 broke a leaf in left pack.
Ford opted for a double center pin as seen above. I see no advantage -- it appears to be different for the sake of different. Plus if strength is an argument (which makes no sense as the u-bolts do
everything once torqued), the center pins are M12 which is huge. Most leaf packs run a single 3/8" so a
single M12 would be a huge step up on its own.
ANYWAY, my donor pile of 3" leafs did not have any leafs drilled like this, and I didn't feel like trying to drill spring steel today. It occurred to me there's no problem to just run a single pin, so that's what I did.
The existing center pins are fine thread and locked up almost immediately. I finally welded them together with a bridge and was then able to impact the nuts off without them spinning.
Also, an M12 SHCS head is the EXACT diameter of the old pins, so that's kinda handy.
Back together with a single pin and life carries on. Oh, I also made a block of 1/2" plate and bolted it into the pack:
