What are you working on today?

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD
Replaced upper control arms, front wheel hubs, outer tie rod ends, changed oil

2007 Ford Explorer
Replaced valve cover gaskets, plenum gaskets, changed oil

Looking forward to hearing the rest of the wrecker company saga. Good looking engine. I like the blue.

Got a call from the wreaking yard this morning asking what the total was. Added $150 like I said I would! No more drama, They sent a different driver as well.

Just a scheme/scam to avoid paying repair/body shops teardown & storage fees.

Chased down a suspension clunk. Turned out to be a slightly loose right rear lever shock. Both mounting bolts were loose, with the inner bolt being looser allowing the unit to pivot on the outer (lower in pic) bolt when the suspension moved. This took way to long to pinpoint...

Working from home today, so decided to eat my lunch in the garage and finish up with taping/painting of the chrome trim. I’m all done, with the exception of replacing the driver side mirror. I’m excited to get it out of the garage, cleaned, and polished and waxed.

Doesn’t seem like much, but it makes a world of difference. My garage is a disaster now, so clean up will commence shortly.

Finished up the LS. Thanks @clinebarger for the tip on using bearing (part number A-37) rollers to plug AFM towers. I’ll be sure to use that tip in the future.

Relubed the sliders and pins on the RV. All new brakes about 2 years ago but this year wanted to pull the right on the brakes. Looks like the inner bottom was gummed up. Guess I need to take them apart yearly and relube.

Got one of the tires replaced on the scooter.. and didn't put a hole in the tube I think. That would be a miracle. Put all the rear pieces back on. Some of the fuel lines are sketchy but think I'll just leave and get some small wires clamps someday. Now waiting for the new tube for the front to show up.

1993 Chevrolet S10
Replaced front and rear shocks, air filter, wiper blades and changed oil

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6
Replaced belt tensioner, serpentine belt, upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat and changed oil

1987 Chevrolet S10
Started a rear brake job, which will end up being an axle seal replacement as well

Seriously blown front struts on an '09 RAV4 at 90k miles. Both sides had coated everything underneath them with oil. Not surprisingly, the vehicle drove terribly -- both "boaty" and harsh clunks with anything resembling a pothole.

I used KYB quick struts -- The Critic said it was probably ok ;)

Once on the lift I saw someone must have driven over numerous dead bodies as the engine skid was mangled and hanging with poorly installed, untrimmed zip ties. What little OCD I have couldn't let that remain so I made it a little better with nutserts in the xmember and bolts. I don't have any metric nutserts and I felt kinda dirty installing 1/4-20 on a Toyota....but hey -- an 11mm socket will work as well as 7/16" more or less :D

I dug out my new old-stock microphone, to connect to a new CB export I ordered. Despite all the talk about AM being dead, you certainly wouldn’t know it around here. The local truckstops are constantly running out of radios. Sure, it’s nothing like it was in the late 70s90s, but they sure beat using Waze or other connected apps for traffic and other weird stuff. It’s also a lot more fun than listening to my stale music tracks and podcasts.

Began diagnosing the ac issue on my Trailblazer. My wife says it's not blowing cold so I had a look. All fuses are good, swapped in known good relays, no dice. Fan clutch is working but it's not locking up and roaring like it normally would. Took it for a rip and no change in air temp. I find the ac clutch is not engaging.

I jump the low pressure sensor switch with no change. So.... I need to verify power at the relay and then inspect the compressor. I will check the wiring and then see if the clutch is magnetizing.

Did those still have a fuse in the clutch wire in the engine compartment?
GM used to hide them.

We were absolutely swamped at work today. Mostly oil, state, rotates and all of the upsells from those things which suck but it’s work. I was worn out by lunchtime. For 15 techs we done 41 cars before lunch and almost 30 after. The flat rate guys weren’t too happy but they got over it. I made a huge mess all over the floor in my bay because of a stupid oil filter location on a 2003 Tacoma. And if was monkey tight too which made things worse. I spent 30 minutes cleaning that up. That made my day bad I was already busting my tail trying to keep up with the 4 cars I was waiting on approval for. So nothing exciting today. Didn’t hardly upsell anything either. They have raised our prices so much that no one is buying stuff. I tried to sell everything I could to get my bonus. It’s ok you have good and bad days. The Tacoma sucked though lol. I love working on old stuff but some things are just stupid. I definitely need a beer and bed now lol. At least I didn’t have to stay late today. We finished up about 4:45. Normally we are done by 3 and standing around waiting for more work lol. I don’t have a problem being busy but it does turn into a cluster all the time. We have no where to pull cars waiting on approval and a few other things but we get thru. We have a policy that we can’t pull cars out of the shop if they are waiting on approval unless it’s a big repair or drop off. That’s per our department trainer. I got my butt chewed last week for pulling a car that was a waiter outside to wait. Never again will I do that after the tail chewing that I got that day.

Better get used to oil changes, tires, rotations. Your company doesn’t care as they are making money. I wouldn’t whine and cry about it either. Me and the other two techs do over 90 R.O.’s a day.

Be glad you are busy as some places right now are not. Not being rude; just telling you how things are.

It’s the busiest we’ve been in a long time. I think if things didn’t get so clustered up it would be better. It gets to the point where you are waiting to pull into your bay because there are cars everywhere waiting on approval and just complete madness can barely fit through the shop. I just don’t like how hectic it is. I’m ok with being busy just those are the reasons I don’t. I’m ready for Memorial Day so they will let us use the AC.
