What are you working on today?

Holychuckleboot @JustN89 you are putting your back into it!
Eventually I'll finish and clean up the garage a bit more! I have a faucet and toilet to install, a yard to mow, and a bunch of stuff I need to take to Goodwill. Up next for the Maxima will be a replacement driver side mirror (should be delivered today), paint the plastic chrome trim that has peeled, and restore the headlights. Should be a busy weekend!

Changing sway bar bushings and end links on the Elantra.

Spent the entire day at a farm consignment auction. Made a good haul. Bought the flatbed trailer, Club Car golf cart, bale wagon, culvert pipe, a 1961 Chevy Spartan lime truck and some aluminum scrap for a project I have coming up.

Golf cart is supposed to be sold on Monday, trailer will be listed when the title arrives, Chevy chassis will be listed when the title arrives(I'm keeping the lime bed). Looking for a newer chassis preferably with air brakes to put the bed on. I'll probably have it blasted and painted and reseal all of the gear boxes on it.

Been fighting an obnoxious clunk on the wife's '08 F150. I wanted to blame IVD kit that came on the truck but the left upper shock mount had wallowed it's hole. The pic doesn't do it justice -- it was quite ovaled. I fired up some bright light and burned in a washer on each side.

Then, her driver's window would sometimes require repeated pressing of the switch to roll up. I was annoyed because just a couple years ago I replaced the entire pack of switches with Motorcraft because all the windows were touchy.

I decided I would not be buying an entire new switch cluster every couple years and pulled it apart and cleaned the contacts. Works perfectly now.

Went over to my friends house today to help him fix his 2006 Infinity G35. He thought he had stripped the oil pan bolts and would have to helicoil them. Turns out the threads were just dirty. Saved him a ton of time and money. Got the oil pan back on and engine back in the car and he will work on it off and on when he has time. And enjoyed a drink or two while I was there of course. He got us some McDonald’s too. His girlfriend went and picked it up for us. His dad will be happy to get his garage back soon.

hey @D60 how do you like those ikon shocks?

hey @D60 how do you like those ikon shocks?
My problem w aftermarket stuff is that it's rarely built for longevity. It's a leveling kit, so front struts/shocks and coils, fancy UCAs and rear shocks.

When it works, it rides like a Caddy. But if you get 30k without at least one shock puking oil everywhere, you're doing well.

Also their BJ's don't last and now I've got a UCA bushing with TONS of slop. How do you make a basic rubber or poly bushing that can't last a reasonable time?

Like I said, it came on the truck but not sure I'd choose to install. I'm almost surely just going to put 4600s on the rear and ditch the high-zoot Icons

1965 Mustang, Ford Performance 1996 5.0L HO Crate Short Block with the stock '65 289 heads. Engine was assembled & installed by a Mustang Specialty Shop in '97.

Customer complaint.....Engine uses large amounts of oil, A quart per 100 miles if he's lucky. While it got real bad in the last year.....He said it always used a lot of oil. Engine has @ 7,300 miles on it

Pulled the engine Wednesday, Spent Friday & Today on disassembly, Inspection, Cleaning & I have the Rotating Assembly back together.

What a mess.....
*Fuel Pump Eccentric is rubbing on the Timing Cover. They used the '65 Eccentric which is too wide for use with later model Cam Gears. The Timing Cover is just about rotted out....I'm sure it didn't look much better 26 years ago?, probably why they used a whole tube of RTV?
*Valve Guide seals had hardened & roughly half are split in 2, Otherwise the heads are in great shape.....New valve seats, Valves, Guides, And they're flat. I'm gonna clean them up, Lap the Valves & Install new Seals
*Short Block is also in great shape for having a bunch of Aluminum ground into the oil, I could see some of it embedded in the Bearings, But the Crank looks new & I see no need to have it polished.
*ALL 16 Oil Control rings were installed with the gaps lined up!! The Compression ring gaps were also lined up on most of the pistonso_O
*Every gasket was smeared with RTV on both sides, I've never seen so much RTV used on a engine in my career! Of coarse the Oil Pick-up was packed with RTV, He must not run this car hard as I would've expected some beat-up/spun Rod Bearings with as loaded as the Pick-up was??

My Machinist is months behind, But he let me come over after hours & Hone the Cylinders on his machine, Just enough to get the correct wall finish.

Everything measured well within spec, It's getting new Rod/Main/Cam Bearings, Rings, & Timing Set.....The Cam Gear has quite a bit of wear, I assume this is because it was in a bind with the timing cover?
How do you not notice the engine got 10 times harder to bar over after the Timing Cover installed?

Apparently EVAP purge pumps are a common failure on 2.0T LSY GM engines
P146B/D is the calling card
GM is apparently aware, there's a 15y/150k coverage adjustment for it
This will be replacement #2 in 30 months and 15k miles
What a pile
Pictured is the first replacement, observe the bolt hanging on by a thread
And the wiring harness retainers not reinstalled

McGuire Cadillac in Woodbridge, NJ can go suck a lemon :(

Needed to work on my car this weekend but it’s been raining non stop here. So I’ve been helping friends. Today if the rain stops I need to fully repair the fuel tank on dads truck and work on my car. The disadvantage of not having a garage lol.

Got one of my hoses done that broke. I ordered a genuine Toyota PCV valve but it doesn’t fit. Wondering if the parts guy ordered one for a USA built Camry instead of Japan. My 1994 is Japan built my 2004 is USA built. See the differences. Maybe someone else will know . I don’t work on many of these engines so I don’t know.

Looks like the old grommet is on the broken one. Will the new part fit that grommet if you put it back on the valve cover?
