What are you working on today?

Got the generator and starter pulled off my 600 Ford tractor and taken to the rebuilder. Installed a new fuel tank on the trimmer I checked out last week. Just gotta wait and see that it for sure fixed the mystery leak I never really found.

Might pick up a load of chainsaws and weed whackers from a friend who bought them as “quick flips” but put them in his shed and never got them running. Depends on how much he’s willing to put into getting them running as I’m not looking to buy and flip but I’ll fix them so he can sell them.

Call me lucky but I’ve never saw cracked brake drum shoes. Not saying it doesn’t happen though.
F150’s had an issue with the parking brake shoe detaching completely and tumbling around in drum/rotor hat. They’d make a hard to find noise until you’d seen the issue before.

Then later on as it became more commonly known I’d find the parking brake inoperative on used vehicle inspections due to the fact that the owner had just pitched the friction material. Most people don’t use parking brakes anyway but for state inspection purposes they need to work.

Done some extra today. Changed the oil with my brother in law in his 2007 Mercury Mariner. He is impressed I knew the filter number and drain plug size right off lol. He could not find a Motorcraft FL820S anywhere so he had to get a K&N HP2010. It had about 3 quarts in it it’s leaking like a sieve worse then mine and he was only going to put 5 quarts back in but it takes 6 so I gave him another quart. Tomorrow I’ll rotate my tires as it needs to be done.

If it’s worth fixing the front cover and oil pan gasket job isn’t too hard. I’d almost guarantee that’s the leak since it was so common on those. If not those 3.0 Duratechs will run forever as long as you make sure they’ve got some oil in them.

Did you fix the neighbors mailbox? I felt bad for your dog after reading about that earlier today

Another engine job for 3.7 explorer. This one had an injector stay open and broke a connecting rod, windowing the block and oil pan. Somehow the crankshaft has zero damage. Has a couple of slightly bent valves on damaged cylinder. Going to look for a used bare block.

Yes I did. Got a new post and dug the other one rest of the way out. I put it in and they put some stain on it and will mount the box on it tomorrow to give it time to dry. The post was very rotten at the bottom it could of fallen at anytime. Luckily she wasn’t hurt it fell right next to her.

Yeah it’s got 239,000 on it he doesn’t want to spend anything on it. I told him do it since he likes to run cars till they stop. He has been driving it with a misfire for about a year now so I’d want to fix that while I was taking the covers off. I think he has had it about three years and only changed the oil twice. I know on my Escape I done the valve cover gaskets and then the timing cover and oil pan is leaking now. I got the gaskets to fix them. I’m very confident mine has tons of life left in it as the Pennzoil team who analyzed my oil results from their study said the engine was one of the cleanest they had seen for 189,000. I heard the water pumps gave issues but none yet with mine so far.

Today I had a 2007 GMC Sierra come in with a miss. It's originally an AFM 5.3 that's supposed to have been deleted. I suspected camshaft or a broken valve spring. It turned out to be a broken #5 exhaust valve spring. No one in town had one, but ones coming for in the morning. Also had a 2012 Malibu in the shop for front brakes and an oil change.

It was actually yesterday… installed a new starter on my ‘77 F250 Super Cab. Then, I pressure washed it, with my son helping me out for about five minutes. The truck sat for about six years, so it was really bad. I still have to solve a few more issues to make it roadworthy again.

Finally got around to washing a bunch microfiber towels that have been sitting in the used bucket. :D

Changed oil and filter and rotated tires on my daughters 2011 Subaru Forester. I noticed a coolant leak on top of the engine so I need to order some parts and fix that.

Accent got a new alternator today. Original one finally kicked the bucket at 186k, was 37 miles from home too, what started as a battery light at idle rapidly declined into losing power steering, traction control, abs, and then the engine started misfiring hard enough to shake the whole car, speedometer and tachometer also just froze in place. $156 tow to my apartment after the insurance covered their 5 mile portion. Battery survived thank God.

30 minutes to remove and 30 minutes to install.
