What are you working on today?

I went to two bone yards today to procure some parts. A wheel for my Subaru; a LR strut and vapour canister for our Florida CR-V which is up here for a recall that Honda Canada and HOA could not coordinate. :(

What started out as a coolant leak became a timing chain, front cover reseal, water pump, belts/tensioner and a few more things. Vehicle is a beautiful 1996 econoline 7.5L (sarcasm on the beautiful)…

A friend’s GX460. LOF. 9 quarts of Kirkland 0W-20, OEM Toyota filter and crush washer. Lubed the U—joints with WD-40 Specialist multi-purpose EP grease and the slip yokes with Red Line CV2 for its moly content. Aired up the tires - I didn’t pull the wheels to check the brakes or do a tire rotation. The former was done last year with OE Lexus parts, the latter was done at Costco earlier this year.

After having to sawzall and grinder my way through a perfectly good sway bar link

And dealing with broken bolts that hold the parking brake cable brackets to the body

And a whole ****ing bottle of anti seize, my car is now back together and I can drive it for the first time in a week and a half

What started out as a simple job of replacing both rear lateral links and rear strut rods has turned into a week of misery and aggravation of my bleeding ulcer 🤬

The good 👍

The bad 😭

TRW parts were used, they seem a cut above some aftermarket junk I've used in the past

Now I gotta find a frame repair place that can repair my oops with the sawzall, before I can get an alignment and hopefully after that a NYS inspection

Merry Christmas 😮‍💨

People liked there gifts, and I've got some Holiday Pay OT on Monday, so that's good I guess 🤷‍♂️

Well,we woke up to a rare western Oregon snow accumulation. I had to run my truck to get my mounted snow tires out of where they stored. I got the wheels/tires swapped out. One moment of excitement wheel my impact gun decided to fling a lug nut into the snow and I got so search around for it. Is it only me that would rather drive a fwd car with snow tires on all four corners than a 4wd truck?

Didn't do much the last three days. I did burn some brush yesterday afternoon, cut a little firewood, and cleaned my pistol last night. This morning I've got a Chevrolet 350 I've got to deliver to the machine shop. Nothing else scheduled as of yet.

Replaced the rear drivers side wheel bearing assembly on the Accent. Stupid thing was rusted to the backing plate so I had to remove the wheel cylinder and parking brake cable, I was starting to think I was going to have to torch it but I was able to get it off by attaching the hub to the drum backwards with the lugnuts and beating the heck out of it. Put the wheel cylinder back on and bled some new fluid into it.

Wheel cylinders are getting pretty rough, have some on order and going to replace them here soon. Also have an engine mount and lower torque mount waiting to be installed.

Burned more brush and cut more firewood yesterday and today. Tomorrow I've got a 1998 Dodge 2500 Cummins to service and put front brake pads on. Maybe it won't need anything else.

Cleaned the jet in the honda genset carb. They made it so easy to do. First time on this machine and it was assembled and running in 30 minutes.

helped a friend wire 6 lamps; rear, left, right, into his bed rack/tent atop his jeep. That was fun. We used split loom, heat shrink, and soldered it all down. The new LEDs throw more light than last years. Pretty impressive, and I got to spend time with a dear friend. He bought me Arbys. It was a good day. He can’t wait to take his wife camping.

Tonight I cleaned 4 bathrooms and kitchen on my hands and knees.
Best way to clean and it actually helps my battered body and limbers me up. Gets me pumped and I did a brisk one mile walk in the dark.

You’ve really, really worked at this one. perseverance. Yes!

The Dodge ended up needing front calipers and hoses in addition to the pads. Got all that done and changed the oil. Tomorrow I've got a Chevrolet Venture coming for service and front pads. Same customer as the Dodge.

I thought service for a Venture was 1) drive to crusher 2) service complete

Checked the front brakes on moms car as they were grinding away only when you hit the brake from about 35 or so and higher. Front inner pad on driver side is measuring 5mm the outer pad and pads on the other side are all measuring 6mm. Probably going to try and take the pins off and lubricate them to see if that will fix it maybe there is a hang up somewhere. It only has 27,000 on it. Never had the wheels off besides rotating them. I will double check the back pads but it’s highly unlikely that they would be the issue. Dad said probably will just go ahead and change the front pads and hardware and re-lubricate the pins and see if the issue continues on. I watched several videos on YouTube and all of them appear to replace pads before they make it to the 3mm mark they were replacing about 6mm or so so I’m wondering if there is an issue with these that I am unaware of. Also applied anti seize to the lug studs and wheel mounting surfaces. This car has the two piece lug nuts and only one was swollen luckily. Might order some new lug nuts for all around when we do the tires as I did have to hammer a socket on the swollen one.
