It took me all day of back and forth with the impact and Kroil to get that bolt out of the bushing on the spindle side

Now the bolt is seized in the bushing on the inner side to the subframe 🤬

I've soaked it in penetrating oil for a day (it rained today)

I'm gonna let loose on it with the air impact tomorrow, and if it still won't come out I'll have to track down a reciprocating saw and cut it out

The bolt is unthreaded from the subframe, it just won't fully retract to let the inner part of the toe arm come away

By some miracle, I swung by my local Toyota parts counter and he had one in stock, so at least I've got a plan b

And I've gotta drill out a bolt that snapped for the parking brake retaining cable, that bolt had to be ordered

...really hope I'll be able to get it all wrapped up by tomorrow night, I've got work Monday 😨
 
Cleaning up the shop and finding one off parts to sell. Found many and sold about $700 worth of stuff just laying around for decades.

Money goes to property taxes.
I wait until the end of the year to pay.

I didn't want to be too specific but selling off old gun parts I once made or offered.
I like keeping stuff around for some spending money:)
 
Helped my co worker yesterday remove his all season tires/wheels. Then we took his new Toyota OEM steel wheels to Parsons tire to have his winter tires mounted. Then back home for beer, put those wheels/tires on his 18’ Corolla. Winter tires are Goodyear ULTRA XL “ultra grip”
 
1993 Volvo 240 Door Card Repair

The repair worked well. The only mistake I made was not taking into account the fasteners being held rigidly by the fiberglass. One fastener on the center forward edge snapped not being perfectly aligned with the hole in the door. Its barely visible when open and no issue when the door is closed.

The door sounds noticeably more solid.

This is my first time working with fiberglass, resin and hardener.

I’m quite pleased.

Put a Diablo thick steel blade in it, and lubed with Kroil

Unfortunately my inexperience with a sawzall led to the blade walking, and cutting into the subframe

Now it can be reassembled, and I can go 😭 in the corner while I try and find a welding shop to repair it

I mistakenly cut on the inside of the box because I thought that'd make sure the stub was short enough to clear the box so the whole piece would fall out

I should've just jammed it to the left, and cut on the outside :oops:

It's much thinner metal (gauge, not due to rust) than I'd have thought

So I'm thinking a small rectangle of steel with a hole drilled in it nicely welded all the way around will reinforce it to as strong if not stronger than before

That should be an easy fix. You might need a slightly longer bolt.
 
Well was going to change brother in laws brakes all the way around pads and rotors. The rotors are much overdue filled with hotspots too. Well he ordered from RockAuto and everything looked just like they do for the pads on the Escape/Mariners and they ended up being too short for the front and rear. Typed in the model number and brand on Google and they sent him pads for a Mazda Miata. So he was fuming so tomorrow I’m going to order pads and rotors from work for all the way around. At least we got two of the brake rotors free they were seized on. They were nice brakes too Powerstop brand came as a pad/rotor kit and it listed for the Mariner but not the right pads were sent. My sister won’t drive the thing because it’s pulsating like crazy. He said he can’t spend more than $400 so I’m going to see what I can get him at work probably Wagner or Raybestos is what I’ll get if AutoPlus has any. Really bummed cause I wanted to get my hands dirty today lol. We did get the air filter in though so that’s good. He is like I think RockAuto would be so much better if there website was easier to use and you could call someone to help you I told him I agree. He said he is done with that website.
 
Started pulling the engine out of a 2005 GMC Sierra today. Just lack a few bolts on the bottom and a few harness plugs. Hope to have the replacement at least in the hole by tomorrow's end. Drained a whole 3/4 quart of oil out of the bad engine.
 
Servicing the Bosch Denoxtronic 2.2 system found in many commercial diesel trucks. Pt.1 changing the DEF Pump Filter:

Looking at the pictures again this looks like a NAPA relabel over an existing sticker. Gonna go dig it out of the trash and see who makes it.

Had to replace two wheel studs on a Subaru that turned into three. The caliper bolts and rotors both took some persuasion to get off. That’s my coworkers ultra long 3/8 (chrome handle one). I’m probably going to buy or order one today because that ratchet has saved my tail a few times and I’ve used it more than 3 lol. His ratchet and mine both snapped trying to take it loose so we are going to have them looked at when the truck shows up today. How it turned into three was my coworker was helping finish up the front and he didn’t realize he had tapped that stud with a hammer trying to get the other one out so we had to replace it because it would not thread so he got two new on the front and one in the rear. He paid for two because a quick lube damaged those. This was a very rusty 2015 Subaru Forester. As you can tell a few of the studs have already been replaced too.
 
I replaced the water pump on my fiance's 1994 Cavalier beater work car since it started leaking very badly at the bottom where it mounts to the block. It looked like it was just the gasket leaking but I have a few new AC-Delco pumps for this engine that I bought cheap at a swap meet some years ago so I figured I would put a new one on. The old one had about 81,000 miles on it. I also installed a new radiator cap since the old one looked original.

I did the work yesterday and she drove it to work today but I'm not sure the leak is fixed. There was some moisture on the concrete under where the car was parked so I don't know if that was just residual antifreeze from draining the radiator and removing the old pump or what. She checked the overflow tank this morning before going to work and the level was lower that what I had left it at so we shall see. I told her to look under the car before she leaves work today and see if it looks wet on the ground.
 
Got the engine sat back in the GMC and the bottom side of the job is done. Tomorrow I'll finish the top and get it running again.
 
Got the GMC done this morning, then started pulling the engine out of a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to have it rebuilt. I'll have it out tomorrow then I'm not doing anything else through the Christmas weekend.
 
Not much going on at work today so just hung out. Assisted where needed like everyone else did pretty much. Replaced some brakes and tires that a car had to get to pass state inspection. I’m learning the inspection stuff pretty well. I want to take the test sometime. I am there 7:30am to 6 everyday. Today we had a waiter oil change that the service advisor forgot to write up so it set there for 45 minutes before it got sent back to the shop. I was the only one there at 5:48 besides the boss so we done the car. Replaced cabin and engine air filters, right tag light, wiper blades, battery and cleaned the terminals. He is coming back tomorrow for brakes because his rears are at 2mm. Tomorrow I’m sure will be a relaxed day. At least didn’t have to do any studs today lol.
