How many miles are on this Alero? Supposedly the wheel bearings are a common issue on these cars, and I still got the originals on my 1999 at 64K miles.

I dont remember honestly, but I'd guess at least a hundred thousand. They weren't loose but both were hammering at highway speeds and roaring at slower speeds. Fortunately they are relatively easy to replace.

That guy! That used conductive, aluminum/nickel metallic grease to lubricate PCM terminal busses!

Next week will be a competition on who gets dead first using candles or a kerosene lamp to look for power outage gas leaks in the basement.

Happy to report that my LQ9 oil boss cooler block and line repair was a grand success. Not a single seepy-weepy-drip. I cleaned her up by rolling through an automated wash bay that performs an undercarriage blast. ^.^

...best $14 spent. *shiver*

Finishing prepping my Jeep for our PA offroad park trip next weekend! So far it's got
  1. new driver's side knuckle
  2. new tierod end
  3. calipers, pads
  4. steering box brace
  5. new front springs
  6. new rear springs
  7. welded on shock mount in the rear
  8. rear shock that fits
  9. replaced a blown out front shock
  10. bent rear diff cover back into shape
Hoping today I'll be able to give everything a once over, align it and change the transmission fluid. Then it's off to maintenance on the trailer
 
I've got an 86 Chevy K10 coming later in the morning for an oil change and grease job. Taurus coming tomorrow for the timing cover gasket. I think when I finish the Taurus I'm going to shut it down for a week.

Yeah I think it was like a sick pet and it just lets you know when it's time. If I would have kept going, it would be in the junkyard by now. The last few off road trips I just kept breaking stuff here and there. Broke the left rear leaf springs in August, so I made a mix and match pack to keep going. Then blew out a wheel cylinder and bought all new rear brake hardware, shoes and replaced the lines while I was in there. Pulled the steering box out of the "frame" again. On our new years day ride I broke the RR leaf spring pack, left front coil spring and both front axle shafts on a particularly hard hill climb.

So it got pulled out of service for a while to get a lot of stuff fixed. I haven't had a left rear axle side shock mount in 5 years. I have one now! The most dangerous part was the knuckle with the bad taper causing the tierod to fall out randomly. That's not a good thing

Unfortunately, the pinion in the front differential is tilt and telescope so it's going to have to go to my mechanic to get that replaced. But it can wait for our trip to be over!
 
Nothing today. Was supposed to have a car come in for a oil change and oil pan gasket but it’s pouring down rain and it’s an older lady who doesn’t feel comfortable driving in the rain so the boss told me and two others to go home since nothing else to be done really he had to put a new wiring harness in that car that the customer slathered anti seize on the connections of the PCM.
 
Almost done with the timing cover job on the Taurus. All the major work is done, mostly just little things left. Itll be finished in the morning.
 
Woke up at three this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Went down to the shop a finished up the Taurus. Six am had the deacon of a local church call and ask about doing an oil change on one of their older vans. Told him to bring it on. Now I'm going back to bed.
 
Heading outside to wash underside of Rubicon. I always coin wash on the way back from the coast … then finish washing the underside when it’s cooled overnight …
 
Finished changing a noisy PS pump on my Caliber, it was making an intermittent piston slap like noise. Put a stethoscope on it and that confirmed (?) It for me. Fought getting the serpentine belt on for way too long. Fired it up, noise still there. Now contemplating a belt idler that the edge is coated in dirt/grease and learning about alternator decouplers which I never had heard of before today.
