What are you working on today?

Replaced the steering rack on a 2003 Ford explorer 4wd today, same one that got the oil filter mount gasket last week. Pita job but it's done and ready for an alignment.

Changed the drivers side axle assembly on my neighbors girls friends 2011 Toyota Rav4. It didn't want to come out but a little persuasion and finnaly did. Then we changed the front brakes, oil and filter and transmission fluid. Car has 178k on it. Transmission fluid was really dark.

Yesterday I replaced the driver side headlight bulb on a 2011 Hyundai Accent. I also changed the oil, rotated the tires and inspected the brakes. Later I changed the oil in my pressure washer. Today I'm starting a radiator and heater core replacement on a 1981 one ton Chevrolet truck.

Finished the radiator and heater core replacement on the 81 Chevrolet yesterday, and I also replaced the radiator hoses, heater hoses and the alternator and power steering belts. Today I slept in until 9 and held down a recilner most of the day.

Didn’t work on much today like the week has been hardly nothing. No parts no work no nothing. That’s ok though I stand around and talk tools and cars all day and still get overtime because they know I will not leave early lol. I tell them I travel 30 miles to work I’m going to make it worth my while to be here so I’m not clocking out a minute early. I also clock in three minutes early and clock back in from lunch 3 minutes early too. I get every penny that I can. I have banked so much time I have a bunch of paid time off I maybe taking advantage soon lol. Since working there I have never called out, missed a day or been late. And they take note of it too.

Did an oil change on families 2020 Cadillac XT4, because I'll be ****ed if I'm gonna pay $95 at the dealer

Cadillac only gives you the first service free on MY19+, cheap bastards

We've had it about 18 months now, just turned 7k on the clock

That being said, it's a fairly easy change once it's on the ramps, it's a plastic oil pan & drain plug (Ford esque), but the plug is parallel to the ground, it only takes a 3/8 ratchet drive to quarter turn it out

But beware, warmed up 0w20 will gush out and quickly overwhelm even the deepest oil pans, and splash everywhere

It's a very large drain hole, it's done in seconds

On went a new PF66, and 5.5qts of AmazonBasics Dexos 0w20, and an EPAuto cabin filter

Total cost for service: $51

I aired up the tires, and took it for a wash and vacuum

Aren't I just the best grandson?🤪

No pictures as usual I forgot to take them.
Changed the oil on my neighbors 2011 Kia Rio, 3.5qts of AMSOIL OE 0w-20 and an Ea15k20 filter.
Changed out 4qts of transmission fluid. It was super black, looked like it never been changed. Car has 158k on it.
Changed out the power steering fluid.
Replaced front rotors and pads
Replaced rear drum shoes
Replaced drivers side rear hub assembly. Super easy to do.
So with all that done, he is good for a while.
My Quickjacks worked like a champ and made things super easy to work on. He is looking at getting his dad a set.

Fixing the oddities on the Freightliner flatbed I'm driving, one problem that was odd was that the Allison transmission would kick out of overdrive on the freeway or locked out at lower speeds. This one has an O/D Disable switch so either the switch is flakey or something is commanding the trans to lockout O/D. With this truck also having HVAC issues we've replaced the climate control switch module (truck had inop A/C for months.) After one freeway run, the trans is not kicking out of O/D and the transmission shifts though all its gears with no issue. Seems like replacing the module fixed the issue. The old climate control switch module looked grungy and it's possible something got spilt onto it causing it to act weird considering its angle and position near the cup holders.

Not with that mess.

Not with that mess.
I'm convinced there's no clean way to drain it on the ground

If your on a lift, and you have the big rolling oil catch can that you can put the splash reducing mat in, your fine

At home, on ramps, even with a decent size pan, it just comes out too fast, it's a very large plug and drain port

I'm considering a Mityvac now

Maybe you could just buy one of those cheap tarps from HF and lay it under there when you change the oil. At least the splashing oil will be on the tarp instead of the driveway.

I believe WIX now makes a 10351 or 10473 spin on filter for that SUV. Sorry, not 100% certain as not at work but we use wix on those

I just use one of those big cookie drip pans from AZ to keep the mess to a minimum. ;)
