What are you working on today?

Split some more oak firewood at brothers house. 36 and real blustery windy but sunshine out today. Fire in fireplace soon; it always feels and looks nice

The house, lol.

Just finished redoing the glazing on my last storm window. I've been taking them off, sanding them, knocking out the old glazing, re-glazing and painting them. Been at this for a few months whenever I had a little bit of time.

Replaced worn ignition key cylinder on 2011 Dodge Avenger. Kinda interesting to see how cylinder and pins work on a double sided system. But man, what a pain in the key hole to access and remove the three screws holding it in.

Saturday and Sunday I did a slew of oil changes on my own and a few acquaintances vehicles. Also Sunday I changed the oil on my lawn mower and replaced the deck belts. Monday I replaced the windshield wipers on my 2002 Ram and my 2001 Grand Am. Today I changed the oil on my 1973 Cutlass and replaced the wheel cylinders on the back brakes.

Replaced the sway bar end links on my beater Pontiac vibe w new GM links that were $11 ea from rock auto. ( priced the duralast links from autozone and they were $40 ea)
Here’s a pic of the OEM old baby GM new

Not much going on at work today. We close early too. They had to send one of the techs home who was in a bad mood and got in a car that had Christmas music playing and punched the radio. They sent him home and gave two warnings one for attitude and the other for violating the no touch policy which states we are not allowed to touch anything in a car like radio or seat adjustment or anything like that due to upset customers in the past. One more and he is out the door cause you only get three. He said he was in a bad mood for having to work today well we took care of that lol. We are all just kind of hanging out.

Firewood I split today. The oldest nephew who is 10 is good at using the maul too. This was 2 hours worth of splitting red and rock oak. Second pic of what’s left right now to split.

Diagnosed this ticket ended up being a bent rear wheel and front two wheels out of balance. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 still can’t get over the Shakey When Brakey. And I heard it from the customer about breaking the valve stem trying to transfer from the old wheel to the new one because they didn’t want to pay for a new one in the first place. I just got a new one and billed it on the shop tab because managers told me I could. The sensor was fine I took it off when I got the tire off. Other than that nothing much else today did do some tires but I hate tires they are boring this is the only shop I’ve ever worked in without a designated tire guy. You can tell winter is here cause it’s slowing down. Got a spark plug replacement assigned to me but couldn’t get the spark plugs so customer came and got it and said they would bring it back at a later time when the plugs would be in. They would not approve aftermarket only genuine Subaru.
Wakey, wakey hands off snakey!

Replaced an oil filter mount gasket on a 2003 Ford Explorer with a 4.6 V8 and 4WD, rather aggravating job. Then replaced the exhaust manifold on a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox with 2.4 4 cylinder, which is also a rather aggravating job. The manifold was busted in half in the middle.

Replaced the coolant temperature sensor in our 1994 Ford Econoline. Hopefully this will fix the constant high idle issue. We have tried everything and if it isn’t this then it will be a PCM issue. It started about 3 years ago I guess so now it may actually get to see the road in 2022. Before it was parked with this issue the rear wheel cylinders were leaking like a sieve so I will be replacing those we bought the wheel cylinders back then just never got to do them when this issue had come about. It will also need a driver window motor to pass inspection because in Virginia the drivers window has to roll down. And of course where it has been sitting when I raise it up to replace those wheel cylinders I will inspect everything really close to make sure nothing else will be going bad like a brake line snapping or something. The tires are from 2007 my dad said he is going to run them to the wire since they are Michelin they won’t fail so yeah hopefully nothing goes wrong there.

I think I would try talking him into changing those tires. 🤔😂
Haha I mentioned it. He said he will be going the full 5/32 remaining on them whenever it gets back on the road. Heck I remember when he had these tires installed in 2007 I had just turned 5 and was getting ready to start kindergarten. I remember he made them redo them because they had faced the white inward and he wanted it outside after he told them about ten times white wall outside please. I remember the mechanic saying nobody does that anymore. LOL.

Well hopefully they hold together for him. As for the white letters facing out, I'm the same way as you can probably tell from the pics of my truck. Only the cool kids still do that. ;)
