What are you working on today?

Replaced the oil filter on the dodge and restored oil pressure. Dont know if the filter had an issue or got plugged. Couldn't see any blockage. Nonetheless, I changed the Motorcraft FL1A to a Purolator red L14670, which is the correct filter, and pressure is back to ~55 psi cold and ~22 psi hot idling. I think the media sucked in a wad of bearing material myself.

Tried to swap out the rotors on my daughter's '12 Mazda 3 Skyactiv last year, but failed due to the amount of rust around the hub. Just pad slapped and drew up my battle plan. Watched many YouTube videos and decided to use 5-ton puller along with 4lb hammer.

Front left went fine with some pounding and with the puller. As I was ready to give up, I heard a rust breaking off. Front right was a bit of challenge as the rotor broke in two spots. No going back now as the rotor had to come off, no matter what. Spent about three minutes hammering and it started to move. I may have damaged one of the lug bolts as I nicked one while hammering away. Oh well... Rear ones only took five hammer strokes to get the rotors off. Cleaned the rust off and put a layer of anti-seize for next time. Took about five hours to do four rotors as I took my time and serviced the calipers, guide pins, etc. at the same time and taking a lunch break.

Repinned the body control module connectors and replaced and programmed the body control module on an 05 Chevy Classic. No service pigtails available for the BCM, GM serviced them as terminals and connector shells. One shell is obsolete, the other 2 were still available. Cleaned up the one I couldnt replace and replaced 40 corroded terminals (windshield leak killed this one). Also replaced and programmed a faulty front controls interface module on a 14 mustang. Diagnosed that a few weeks ago, FCIM was on backorder

Rebuilt the passenger side cv axle on my wife’s 07 Accord with a new inner joint. New cup, new rollers, new tripod and inner boot kit. The vehicle display vibration during moderate to heavy acceleration due to worn inner joints.

Doing the passenger side reduced vibrations by 80-90%. Still need to do the driver side in order to resolve it 100%.

I put this custom made Seicane 10.1 inch Android headunit into project 2010 Milan

Plug and play, didn't have to strip or tap one thing

They sent the wrong color bezel, and the wrong antenna adapter, so currently no radio reception

Mainly for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, as it's the modern taste in ICE

The stock SYNC system was well past it's prime, and now I'm backup camera ready, it should show up by next weekend

Jaguar showed the battery light to my niece when she borrowed it Wednesday night, so it sat until I could check it out Saturday morning. Alternator was putting out over 15 volts. So I let it sit and ran a battery test and charging test with my cheap Menards battery tester. It showed of course that it was “high voltage”, but also that my battery, when tested, was dropping off and should be replaced. (It was a Varta AGM Group 94 I had from my mom’s Mini that I put in since I didn’t have a spare battery for the Jag and it was starting it ok).

My niece is in the car shop stage of replacing her current car (2005 VW Beetle turbo), so she found some cars to look at down in Brainerd/Baxter. There’s a Costco there, so I grabbed an old core battery and went to look at cars and hit the Costco.

She didn’t like any of the cars we saw, and I grabbed the Costco Interstate for the Jaguar. Put it in Sunday morning and rechecked. Alternator still putting out high volts, but a little less. Started considering how difficult swapping the alternator in and out and if I should bring it to my local auto electric guy. I decided to run it up the road and then recheck the output (no lights on the dash). Checked after a couple mile test run, and alternator was back down to just above 14 volts. So the Jaguar is done.

Finally, my nephew asked me if I could change out the sway bar links on his 2008 Dodge Ram (my old truck). One was broken off so I zipped it off with my air impact and had to cut off the driver’s side with my cut off wheel. Went quick and was all done within an hour. Productive weekend. 😎

Cleaned out the oil return holes in the heads on a 90 Chevrolet truck. Coat hanger with some brake clean did the trick. Changed the oil and replaced the pcv valve and hose. After lunch I've got to replace a belt tensioner on a 97 Ford crown vic.

Hmmmmmm butterscotch pudding!!!?🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Nice job.

This afternoon a 2003 Dodge Ram was hauled in. I have to replace the power steering pump and serpentine belt. Looked at it briefly and the shaft and pulley are broke off the pump and completely missing. Someone figured out how to route a shorter belt on it, bypassing the ps pump. Theres a reman unit in the front seat, complete with pulley and six quarts of atf to flush/fill the system with. After that I'm supposed to smoke the truck over to see if it needs further repairs.

I’ve always been curious about those Chinese Android units I seen people install myself. I’ve used a Linux one in a Tacoma, I wasn’t impressed.

on my last day of PTO, did a shoe slap. The same OE Toyota shoes installed and the drums were at still at 200mm service spec. if you wonder why the linings look clean, I used masking tape during the install and ripped the tape once the install and adjust were done.

Got the pump on the 03 dodge. Will flush and fill after lunch. Also have a 95 Chevy 3500HD that needs an oil Change and battery.

Today was interesting at work because I learned something crazy. So we have another new guy who is doing great. Well he put 5.1 quarts of oil in a Subaru that only was supposed to get 4.4 because he put the wrong year in the computer. So we thought no big deal a little extra won’t hurt. Well the customer goes down the road then calls saying there is a warning saying Oil Pressure Too High Shut Off Engine. No it didn’t say low it said high. So that was interesting well we drained out the 1/2 quart that was over and the light went off. So a lesson learned lol. When my boss came to me saying one I did was being towed back my heart sank I was scared. I thought we had majorly messed up something but nope a brand new Subaru decided it didn’t like the extra oil lol. All the other Subaru techs were surprised too then they said they think it’s something new for this years model. So that’s what I worked on today. Also done some tires, a tire patch and then helped replace some timing components.

Front pads and rotors, oil change on a 2008 Silverado. Started a water pump job on an 82 Chevrolet C10.

Parked the Dodge. Thought I'd succeeded in solving the oil pressure issue, but I didn't. Something somewhere is causing the engine to lose oil pressure once up to operating temperature when driving. Getting into the area of diminishing returns, so it's time to get serious about finding an engine.

Only two of us showed up today out of four. Well hardly no major work and since only one lube tech was there we were all voluntold to help them. I didn’t mind they are always nice and always talk about cars so they are all my type of people. Rolled out 29 cars in 10 hours average 30 minutes per car I’d say only 19 were appointments rest were walk ins. One hour for lunch. Also helped remove some Ford swollen lug nuts every single one of them was swollen so we just added it to the shop tab since the customer has always bought and had cars worked on there.
