What are you working on today?

'14 Rogue Select arrived "on the hook"

Turned out to just be significant corrosion on battery terminals causing it to lose its mind.

She also wanted an oil change. Good thing 'cause I got less than 2.5 qts out of a 5 qt capacity. I checked the air filter, it was struggling so replaced

This is the very same vehicle where a few years ago bees were getting past the air filter and getting fried on the MAF, causing all manner of drivability issues. These Nissan 2.5 airboxes are just problematic.

I found a huge amount of goldfish at the bottom of the airbox along with a couple Doritos and gummy bears:

Then replaced LF CV. I am loath to discard the OEM axle but essentially all the grease had escaped. I'd be hesitant to try to re-boot this, at least for a "paying job".....so I used an Import Direct because I could get it today.

Oh also 3 of 4 pdl actuators are making the wonderful GAAHKK!!! noise when locking/unlocking. Enough to make you soil yourself, but I admit nothing.

My neighbor wanted a hitch on his '85 square body. It already had a Luverne drop bumper and I was afraid I'd need to modify a hitch, but to my surprise Curt offers a 15511 that accommodates for this. It's actually a semi-universal fit and lists for several applications including some Fords.

I usually add D-rings to all truck hitches around here. You can never have too many recovery points. I should have fit the hitch first because ideally I would have welded these to the bottom rather than the rear face. Nonetheless, they'll still work fine.

The instructions with the hitch were terrible, saying to use spacers at the frame where they weren't needed. But the biggest problem was saying to attach a furnished right angle bracket to the frame just 6" forward of the old location for the spare tire hanger. I couldn't make sense of what they were thinking and just mocked up the spare and did what I had to do. In the end it turned out decently.

I swapped him from an old 6-pin wired in with ScotchLoks (of course) to a 7/4 properly plugged in with a Hopkins tee:

I used a hole saw and my M12 belt file to create a pretty sweet 7-pin plug hole:

Getting some gear oil weepage from the rear diff cover so reseal time. Dropped the spare tire for this job for something special.

Removing the old cover and scraping off the Fail-Pro paper diff cover gasket.

Don't get a lubelocker but get this instead! GM has a rubber impregnated steel core cover gasket for 2008-on 10-bolt AAM diffs. Holes lined up on my 02 Silverado AAM rear diff. Also replaced the rear diff cover ass well. Dorman (ugh) was available with a painted version, didn't want the corny chrome diff cover look.

All buttoned up. 10 bolts torqued to 31ft-lbs, fill plug nylon gasket replaced with a copper gasket: torqued to 35ft-lbs. Drain plug: 35ft-lbs.
Refilled with Valvoline Synpower 75W90.

Reinstall new matching 17" spare replacing the crusty 16" undersized spare.

Drove an hour and a half to pick up a rear bumper and tail light set for my '95 Seville. The guy was parting out a '97 with a rotten frame, he was even nice enough to have everything pulled for me when I got there. $120 for everything, and he let me take the trunk pull-down motor I needed as the one in mine has a finnicky switch and doesn't always like to extend after opening.

The bumper isn't the same color, but some patience and a couple cans of factory match paint should get it presentable. For the price, I got a huge bargain.

2013 Infiniti G37X, 84K:

Replaced front and rear differential fluids.
Replaced drive belt and pressed new bearings into the 3 idler pulleys.
Replaced the infamous coolant coupler on the passenger side and performed a coolant service w/vacuum fill.

I needed to do a tire rotation and give the front brakes a look over on my 2020 Wrangler Unlimited Sport Willys. The brakes were fine and won’t need a check until next fall.

I had been given a full take off suspension from a JLU Rubicon, so I went ahead and installed the springs, as the rest of the suspension is the same on my Jeep as it is on a Rubicon.

Did I get more lift? Yeah, but I forgot to measure. The rear has some rake now, rather than being slightly lower than the front on stock springs.

The muddy picture is from October and the shiny picture is from today. It seems to be about an inch. I may order the Mopar 2” lift lower control arms, but it drives fine now. It’s just a bit more stiff than the Sport springs.

Then I put it away for the winter after a 60 mile drive. Next up is the oil cooler. It’s leaking.

2009 Taco 4x4, 2.7, 264k mi
-battery light due to failed alt. Replaced alt w AutoZone because 2.7 units are surprisingly difficult to find in-stock
-pressed a new 6203 into the tensioner pulley

Last week I spent most of my time working on another batch of hydro boost units. Yesterday I made two orders of aluminum link bars. Today I'll start my day by clearance boring Ford super duty steering knuckles for RCV axles. Over the weekend I just did some vacuuming, exercise and relaxed some.

Drained a little ATF out of the check plug & the fluid is cooked & had thickened quite a bit, Customer okayed the overhaul.

The torque converter has a nice purple sheen to it......

Well, when ATF looks like motor oil with 20K - ya gotta pay …

@clinebarger - would you think this is a case where maybe the TC started to slip, causing the heat and fluid degradation, or is this where the driver caused the wear and tear?

These newer transmissions seem to be so good at staying in lockup that they don’t create as much heat internally as they used to?

Truck is awfully clean and the wheels are fancy - does the vehicle tow a lot?

Got the truck back from the body shop this morning from getting repairs from when it was rear ended.

Installed the winter tires, set the tire pressures, then installed the cold weather grille cover. Threw the battery tender on it for the day as well.

No work for me this time! I dropped the 2010 X3 off at the BMW dealer to get a VANOS bolt and PCV Heater recall done. It took years for BMW to have replacement PCV Heaters, but they are following through.
