What are you working on today?

Repaired an oil pan from an FMX, some jackwagon severely overtorqued the pan bolts and damaged the flange, fluid was pouring out all around. New replacement pans have not been available for decades.

Stripped it and hit it with some Corporate Blue when I was finished; the paint was pretty chewed up when I was done beating on it. Goes back on the car in the morning with some fresh Type F ATF.
Is the Corporate blue the same blue that is on Ford/New Holland tractors? I have an older Ford tractor and it looks to be close if not the same.

2012 Ford Transit Connect got new front wheel bearing, rotors and pads and a much needed valve cover gasket. Under cover pic at 165k miles.

I had a mildly dragging brake caliper on the Focus, swapped in a new one and its working well again. First time I've done more than swap pads and the bleed went well enough. Now that corner seems to be working the best of the 4.

Just got unpacked and settled in from my trip. Got five vehicles waiting in the yard for various repairs. Got to make time to continue working on the F100 this week.

Repacked the bearings on my 4x8 HF trailer yesterday. Things look kinda bent underneath, I don't recall overloading it but it got tweaked at some point. After 15 years I think it can be retired and used just around the house now, not sure what I'll replace with.

Made the oldest repack the bearing on one side, I think he viewed it as much fun as getting a root canal and about useful as learning about how to use a dial up modem, but he managed.

Here's the PCV valve and O2 sensors I replaced on my 03 Civic with 160k miles. These are original to the vehicle. I finally started noticing some rough idle and hesitation on low speed acceleration when the engine was cold. Replacing these did the trick. Car idles smooth now, and cold engine low speed acceleration has lost all hesitation. Runs like a champ (for now)!

Got the ball joints done on the Silverado. Tomorrow I've got a Chevy equinox to do front brakes on and front sway bar links. Will probably change the oil too.

Got the Equinox knocked out pretty quickly and made time to piddle with the Ford some. Replaced the alternator, battery cable ends and ground strap and now all connections are good and its charging. Also removed the original air cleaner and popped on an auto zone chrome jobber. It fits but needs holes drilled for set screws to secure it to the carburetor better. Not sure if I'll keep it on there or not. Tomorrow I have a pt cruiser to replace a radiator in.

Got the radiator changed out in the pt cruiser and serviced it while it was there. Did an oil change on a 90 F150 and tomorrow it gets greased. Also have a 99 Dodge Durango to find a coolant leak on.

Busy day today with break in weather, Temperature, and not fighting bugs and the pollen fuzzy things that fall out of the water oaks into open engines.

Valve covers done on Chevy 6.0, LQ9 engine. Not a bad job, hardest stud to access is tucked up under the passenger side firewall. Removing #8 coil pack from the retainer rack gives you all access that you need.

Passenger side is cleanest, it gets fresh air. Vapor is pulled from the rear of the driver's side cover through a PCV orifice. I promised engine porn, so here it is. She had 180k miles on her. Previous service history unknown. She's had 4 full synthetic oil changes every spill of the sump looked grungy, so something was flushing out. I was alternating between Mobil-1 5w-30 EP and Mobil-1 0w-40 FS Eurocar. Depending on season and expected use.

I only used brake Cleaner once, to clear the PCV runner up under the driver's side cover. A blast of air to clear it, but all of the grime under the valve covers cleaned up with a dry shop rag. Literally wiped clean. The top sides cleaned up the same way, the seeping Mobil-1 was collecting gunk, but it literally wiped clean to bare shining aluminum. The PCV orifice was spotless, looked factory new in fact. o_O

This is the passenger side untouched:

After a wipe, new gasket and grommets:

Driver's side cover shot before a simple wipe, then after removal, wipe, solvent flush on the runners, gasket and grommets replaced:

That orifice didn't need a thing. As it came out of the cover:

Can't say Mobil-1 was reason for the easy cleanup but dang... it literally just wiped clean. Not a bad job overall. Time to complete: 2½ beers. 🍻 After closing her up, I ran her idle until hot on remaining, low OLM %. Drained hot. In went Mobil-1 0w-40 FS Eurocar and a spun on WixXP filter. Drove her, checked her... dry as a bone. She sits now overnight to cool after a good hour of hot driving. I'll inspect again in the morning.

Got the struts for the Festiva back together.. first time I've rebuilt a mcpherson strut usually just get quick struts. The spring compressor had u-bolts to hold the spring but I was still scared poo-less.

Those things really skeer me too. I've heard stories... you know from a friend of a friend's uncle's roomate 'n such. It's the sort of thing you recall hearing about when you pick up a shiny new one in the box at Harbor Fright. (Not a typo) And then you drop it like it stung you. ^.^

The Durango ended up needing a radiator. Also got a new fan clutch and belt while it was apart. Tomorrow I've got a Buick century to put an evap solenoid on and check the front brakes.

Buick got front brake pads, the evap solenoid and an oil change. Currently replacing the knock sensors on a 2003 Suburban.

Changed out the electronic rearview mirror for a regular rear view mirror. Just need to drop the headliner to hide the cable.

Starting to sort out my new Ciera. The front brakes are into the rotor vanes, so it is getting the TLC it desperately needs. Tracking down the cause of a CEL and the source of a mildly worrying upper end ticking.
