What are you working on today?

The repaired tire was losing air yesterday. It's flat today. No evidence of a puncture.
  • Swapped the spare in its place.
  • Found out that Craftsman jack is still FUBAR.
Time for new tires. The ones that are on there now have >10k miles left on them. No where near the wear bars. But they're Fuzions - the absolute worst POS tires that have ever been on a car. They producde a lot of road noise from the time they were new. It's the wife's car so I asked her about it and she told me she didn't care.

Time to pitch the tires and the jack into the dust bin of history.
Sat around today.

Four new tires from America's Tire - Continental Control Contact Tour A/S Plus.

Painless process. Purchased and paid for online, scheduled an appointment. I was in and out of there in 25 minutes and they were nowhere near standing around. What was surprising was the number of employees that work there.

Once I get another jack (maybe tomorrow), I plan to break loose all the lug nuts with the impact and re-torque by hand.

Got the alternator in the Escape. Not too bad going back in. Charges at 14v now vs 13.4-13.8 before. Didn't get rid of the awful rattle. Hoping just the cat as it goes away once it's warms up. Also seems like the misfires have stopped. Wonder if the .20 volts AC from the bad alternator caused it. The new alternator is only .06.

Today I stripped another truck for parts, this time a 2001 Silverado in work truck trim. Removed bench seat, steering column, door windows and regulators(crank windows) bed and fuel tank assembly. Engine and transmission were removed several years ago. It's been a hot one today. Pacing myself and drinking lots of water and running the shop fans.

Just needs a little grease
Ironically, they were greaseable and we tried that solely because we discovered it yesterday but I couldn't help him until today.

The grease made the squeaking noise he was experiencing worse. Not sure how or why.....

used the Permatex windshield repair kit to fix a small bullseye rock chip that just started to expand (small cracks)...I'd say about an 80% improvement and the repair appears flush with the windshield...we'll see how it lasts...I've never done one before...Safelite wanted well over $100 for the repair...kit was $12 and took about an hour and al half including cure time

Have used them a few times. I don't remember exactly but overall success rate is high.

You would think this would be easy.

Capping it warm, letting it run 5-10 minutes then seeing what it wants to do on the cool-down.

It SHOULD draw it back in..............

2016 Chevrolet Tahoe
Rotated tires, checked brakes, changed oil, replaced air filter and wiper blades

1995 Dodge Ram 1500
Replaced oil pressure sensor, serpentine belt and belt tensioner

2001 Pontiac Montana
Replaced front brake rotors and pads, changed oil

Me? Well I needed 60* miter cuts in this pipe to match a fender line. The first one was easy but my saw only swings 60 one way, so I'm working on the patent pending floating band saw.

On the bright side, it worked so I guess I can't argue with results....

Work was kinda slow. Guess everyone is on vacation usually Thursday is a busy day for us. Done lots of training as it was due tomorrow. So that’s out of the way now. Then after lunch I done an oil change, tire rotation, state inspection on a 2021 Sienna Hybrid. I advised new wiper blades as the ones on the van were original and torn so in Virginia they cannot be torn to pass inspection. Customer said they wanted to see, advisor brings them back for me to show them. I show them then he gets irate, accuses me of tearing them with his finger in my face then gets right against the bill of my hat with his forehead the manager and other manager run over and pull him back and escorted him out of the shop and made him pay full price for the wipers. Had he not of thrown his temper tantrum we were going to give them to him for employee price since he was a little upset. The boss came up to me after that and told me he would have someone else handle the rest if I wanted to go cool off in the break room and watch the baseball game for an inning or two. I took him up on that offer because had they not pulled him back it would of been bad I had to cool off. I stood there and didn’t say a word because I didn’t know what to do plus he was talking so loud in my face I couldn’t get a word in if I tried. Some people man you just never know about them. I mean yeah I’d be mad if I had to pay $50 for wiper blades too but I would act like an adult not a jerk and I would never accuse anyone of tearing my two year old original wiper blades either. And I tried to recommend air filter and cabin filter too because they were filthy he slapped them out of the advisors hand she didn’t know what to do she stood there in shock. I didn’t really do much after that because there was nothing to do.

New radiator fans in the '09 CC. One of them recently began to make some noise, so a new pair of Mahle/Behr units are going in. Scored the loot from FCP Euro.

Camping this weekend so took the opportunity to work on the TT. I replaced the black tank handle that got broken on my last trip. I siliconed the tub drain and replaced the water heater panel with some plexiglass, and faux wood sticker and some 1/4 turn fasteners.

Having an RV is like owning a second home from a maintenance standpoint. But like I tell my kids if you wanna play you gotta pay.

Just my $0.02
