What are you working on today?

Finished tidying up my mini split install in the attic finally. This was the worst part of the job. Photos with 2x4s is the condensate line that I had to run through the attic and also supports that one line set.

Back at my friend's shop

2014 Ram 1500
Rotated tires, changed oil, replaced air filter. Replaced left taillight bulb

1998 Chevrolet Tahoe
Replaced rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and drums. Changed oil, replaced air filter and pcv valve

A couple small things. Done tons of oil changes because we were backed out to the street with them but that’s ok. Upsold a ton of wipers and air and cabin filters. I’ll be getting a $145 bonus tomorrow since that’s what my upsells equal out too for the two weeks. Really not a whole lot today besides that. Had two people put in their two week notice. I had a meeting with the big boss about something’s as he wanted to talk to me about the people leaving as I’m in charge of them. One is moving back to Ohio the other one is going back to being a park ranger. We discussed a lot of stuff and had a really good conversation. I’ll be moving back to Subaru in the near future. I’m trying to figure out the best way of going about asking for a raise. For one thing it’s much needed but also much earned and deserved. But I’m not sure I can get the amount I have in mind. They haven’t started on the new Subaru shop yet but I’m not staying at Toyota and he knows that as I was very clear about it.

Well the past couple days anyways...

Removed the old TV antenna that the bracket broke this winter with all the high winds.

Cleared out some stumps from old evergreens I chainsawed...

Today I had 4 yards of mulch delivered.

Cleaned up nicely. Looks a whole lot better than when I moved in last year. All the shrubbery I cut way back is going to take some time to grow back and look full.

Oil change on grandmothers 2016 VW Jetta with the 1.4T.

Found out why the drain plug was dripping... OE on left, what was in there on the right...

G4sLVTm.jpg

Carquest filter that was on there was also leaking for some reason, despite being tight. Installed a Mann (OE) filter and Mobil 1 0w40 for inquiring minds. Less than 3000 miles on the oil change, but was coming up on a year. Also the oil change sticker said 5w30. Doubt they used a Euro 5w30. The right stuff is in there now!

Also gave it a quick wash

Two washers on the left and one on the right? Or bad eyesight?

Replaced my radiator today, the future owner of this car better appreciate it 🥺

I cut the hose to match the factory, yet it still seemed a touch short
PXL_20230526_201402272.webp

I would've liked a little more hose, but it should be fine, I've got full engagement past the barb/flare
New OE constant tension clamps
I'll reset ATF fluid level tomorrow, LG Red seems to have helped this nearly 200k U151E shift with more authority
I reused the coolant, it'll get fresh SLLC when I do the timing belt/water pump

What kind of place do you work at? I notice you seem to predominantly work on trucks.

that OEM drain bolt looks like it has a shoulder on it that the aftermarket doesn't. Causing more space to seal better with the washer. With anything even aftermarket have to make sure it's a spot-on copy of OEM. Thanks for posting this!

Test fitted light accessories n car and trailer, and had local neighbor kid wash the car. Wish I could do it myself, but my spine looks a bag of pretzels. 🙄

I am getting the AC cold on the tourist without using the pressure gauge set. Only low side . I think I got it...

While Fords seem to hold a little more, it is still more likely overfull than not.. running it a minute then turning it off a minute (Max AC) seems to get it a little colder each time.. so this can is bought just in case someone comes and buys it all.

Low side pressure was right around 45psi running/40psi off (???) It is 72 degrees and not too humid today.

Next up on Ford is the Water Pump, it is dripping from the weep hole so. Flushing and light use are happening... No idea why it is green either, G-05 and distilled water are in there. I cleaned it up, too. (Of course.)

Right now I'm working for a friend of mine who is an entrepreneur. He rents out/leases work trucks, vans, heavy equipment, buys/sells/trades classic and late model cars, runs a few day cab truck routes and does vacation rentals. I work on and off for him through the year. When I'm not there I work on cars at my shop at home, although I'm trying to whittle that down to just a few customers. I'd like to completely retire by 2025.
