In 1960 a couple of Wisconsin guys who called themselves The Fendermen recorded an old-time tune called "Muleskinner Blues." It was arguably the first "electrified" folk tune to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
Here's a video of a Fendermen reunion in 2008 where they played their one and only hit.
