Real chili or does it have beans?
Edit: sorry of that came off as a put down. It sounded funnier in my head.
I put in a big can of red kidney beans. Also chopped up some hot dogs, some bacon. I added a wee bit of cinnamon, brown sugar, chili powder, tomato sauce from the jar, etc.
I don't always make it this way, I like to switch things up. Sometimes just straight ''boring'' beans and ground beef , etc etc.
Sometimes I go on a recipe website such as all recipes.com and get ideas, tweak my own recipe.
Anyway, mine turns out pretty good. Sometimes I add a wee bit too much ''hot whatever'' and I get the hiccups while i'm eating my chili.
I turned 58 in April. I always loved to cook , even as a kid, a young boy. My mother is Italian ( Italian immigrant) so food was/is always a big part of our family life .
I'm not a gourmet cook or have any formal training, or even that my mother taught me loads of cooking lessons....it's just something that I enjoy, even a bit of simple baking ( cookies/cake), pastas, cannelloni, barbeques, sandwiches of all sorts .
I think , when I look back, is that when I was a kid, my much older brother (by 9 years) would sometimes take me to a fast food restaurant . Then by age 17-18, I had my driver's license and was working, I'd go to a variety of restaurants. Chinese, Indian, Thai, diners, fast food, Mexican, you name it.
At some point, I think by mid twenties, I just started trying to copy somewhat the restaurant meals at home....obviously not truly authentic, but as long as tasty and edible. trying to save my money from always wanting to go eat out/food delivery. I still enjoy take out/restaurant meals, but Everything costs just too much, add the tip, Gas cost, pay parking....adds up, going out for fish 'n chips or Indian food/Japanese/Chinese/pizza now and then is rare and a special treat.
Plus at my age, it's wise to look out for diabetes and heart issues, especially from over indulging from going out to eat/deliveries, with higher salt intake, sugars, fillers, etc. At home I cook and I can control/limit the bad stuff!
