What are you eating right now?

I'd be interested in seeing your test results. I understand that the fiber in fruit can have a positive effect on glucose numbers, but I've never experimented with dates.
Instead of posting a long-winded diatribe that will get erroneously flagged as 'medical advice,' I give you this:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8281151/

In short, 2 to 3 dates a day can be beneficial to blood glucose control even in diabetics. A long time ago I read a similar study that was in regard to figs and the conclusion was the same. Nurttiotnally, figs and dates are great for runners like me. They will give me a slow release of energy I need during a lengthy run. If I had to run from a grizzly, I'd choose a Mars bar or something that will drive up blood sugar much faster. The more sudden and the higher your energy expenditure, the more quickly you want glucose in your blood.

Have your one or two dates/figs before you go to bed and see if this reduces the morning/fasting BG. Would be an interesting nutritional experiment. Alas, we don't do medical experiments here at BITIOG. Not yet, at least.

I still had fresh figs so I made almond flour pancakes with eggs, filk, flax meal, and chia seeds and ate them with a couple of figs. The almond pancakes taste quite good but they never get the nice blistery texture of conventional thin pancakes. I have to make the almond pancakes thicker because they are more fragile. It's the gluten in wheat flour that makes conventional pancakes durable. I could add gluten or xanthan gum to the almond flour batter if I wanted to get closer in texture. I just don't care.

Try some real maple syrup with your pancakes. Corn syrup based syrup makes you insanely thirsty.
I used to bring the real stuff to diners with the hope of sharing and "buttering up" gals.
Alas, girls eating breakfast in diners always have guys with them.

I'm eating a sliced apple with blueberries, cinnamon and plain yoghurt at the moment.

Sugar intake causes cells to make room for glucose. The cells shed water and soon you have to urinate. Then your body needs water and so you get thirsty. Being constantly thirsty is an early warning sign of high blood sugar levels and/or diabetes. I had a coworker who was drinking half a gallon an hour while we were on the road. Guess what he was diagnosed with.

Yep...
Water you would never think of drinking you can throw down with extreme alacrity.

Teriyaki boneless wings at Macado’s in Roanoke Virginia. I begged for Chinese food but dad didn’t get home in time so it was a no go. That’s ok they will be gone for a funeral Friday night and Saturday so if I don’t get it by then I’ll have some Chinese food and beer haha. I’m trying to decide what beer I want to try this weekend thinking Heineken revisit. Last time I had it I didn’t like it but that was awhile ago. I would go to the funeral but I’ve got someone’s car to work on and I didn’t know the person all that well only met them a couple times.

Don't do funerals - unless you need to make sure. It's depressing. I can't give you mixological advice regarding a complimentary alcoholic libation that will work with your favorite food. I'd want something that anesthesizes me before the first bite.

Tsing Tao is a good choice for Chinese food as is Kirin Ichiban. While not quite as traditional, I like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as well.
