Went to the baseball game earlier it was great. Nice and shady stadium. Then went to my work to help a friend look at a car and hooked her up with one of my salesman friends. I was going to use the same one who sold me my RAV4 but he was busy so I used the next best one. She got a 2014 Subaru Impreza Hatchback on my recommendation. It has 63,000 miles. She was trying for a Toyota Camry but couldn’t get financing on it due to age because it was a 2008. She barely got financing on this one. She couldn’t go above $350 payments so they got her a payment for $301. They were originally going to give her the predatory in house financing with almost 38% interest but another bank picked her up when the other finance manager tried today for 29% so at least that’s a bit better but not much really. She was going to give me $50 for helping I’m like no you keep that for whatever you need lol. I took it back in the shop and lifted it to look at it and face the final approval and she and her boyfriend signed the paperwork. They pick it up Tuesday because it has to go thru our detail department still. It’s almost the color of my RAV4 but a little bit more burgundy. She really wanted a RAV4 too but they couldn’t find one for any price they could afford.
Her final total cost for the car will be astronomical. Too bad she didn't belong to a credit union.Glad she got the non-predatory 29%!![]()
I should mention her and boyfriend’s credit score are both below 500 too. So it’s a wonder they were able to get anything. Her final total cost for the car will be astronomical. Too bad she didn't belong to a credit union.
I talked to the Subaru technicians at my dealership and they said no known consumption issues on these that they were aware of and said it’s a solid car and solid engine. When I was a Subaru tech I don’t remember any problems with these either. That is a massive payment on a 12 year old vehicle.
Hopefully they aren’t plagued with excessive oil consumption since it is an early FB engine. Make sure they understand the importance of checking their oil very frequently.

Well the FB25 suffered excessive oil consumption through 2014 and into some 2015 models in the Forester, and I am pretty sure the FB20 suffered the same. Although I am not as familiar with the early FB20 as I am the FB25.I talked to the Subaru technicians at my dealership and they said no known consumption issues on these that they were aware of and said it’s a solid car and solid engine. Was there an identified cause of excessive oil consumption?Well the FB25 suffered excessive oil consumption through 2014 and into some 2015 models in the Forester, and I am pretty sure the FB20 suffered the same. Although I am not as familiar with the early FB20 as I am the FB25.
Poor oil control ring design in the early engines. My 2011 Forester had it, and I had to replace the engine by 153k miles. Was there an identified cause of excessive oil consumption?
Did it burn oil from the beginning, or come on with some decent amount of miles. Maybe the oil control rings get gummed up from poor design (lacking good drain holes in the oil ring groove) and something like Valvoline Restore and Protect could help clean up the ring pack.Poor oil control ring design in the early engines.
