What are the most overrated, overpriced tires?

I vote Goodyear.

Almost all of us seem to have a different idea of what constitutes value in a tire.

As was mentioned earlier, Michelin makes the finest ultra performance tire out there, the Pilot Sport 4S. They do not make the leading tire in every category. Higher performing cars in mild climates need a great tire. The PS4S is it without question. And they are far from short lived these days with an unheard of 30000 mile warranty.

Michelin also makes the best Light Truck tire, the Defender LTX. Overwhelmingly preferred, highly rated, and competitively priced. In our fleet these tires are by far the lowest cost due to their ridiculously long life even on a 9000 pound van!

Be cautious about comparing any OEM tire to the aftermarket. As our own tire expert has told us, OEM tires are spec tires built for a particular application and generally biased towards low rolling resistance.

Better combination of dry grip, wet grip, feel, NVH, longevity, and quality than... really any summer tire ever made.

It's their mass-market stuff that's less likely to be best-in-class. Though to be completely honest, I don't see the point in those segments at all. Like, I get that people value cost, NVH, and longevity over everything else, but.... Are we buying furniture here, or tires? But maybe that's another story.

So yeah, I can see how someone who's trying to be thrifty might think Michelins are overrated or overpriced. But if you want a tire that does what a tire is supposed to do, they're a bargain compared to everything else.

I agree 100%.

Been a long time Michelin user (since the 70s). Recently my truck tires (LTX A/T2s) started cracking at 6 yrs (with decent tread left). Then my pilot sport A/S3s are projected to be done at 20k miles (vs 40k). So my last 2 sets of tires have not been Michelins. I no longer see the value in the premium Michelin charges.
