What are the good filter brands these days?

I hear that Wix is no longer the same quality that it used to be. Same with the Napa Gold filters. Are there good filters anymore? I used factory filters for my newer Mazda vehicles, but for my older stuff I have been using Wix.
 
also drive a mazda. i dont know the brands across the atlantic but i prefer knecht, mahle, hengst and mann. wix and febi bilstein here are really cheap and of lower quality. i guess purflux and filtron somewhat stand in the middle of the range.
 
I am still using Baldwin. Not sure if quality has remained good. Heard they changed ownership or were relocated out of country some time back.

At what Mileage do you change your Oil Filter on your newer and older stuff?
 
Bosch Premium seems good to me, but made in Mexico. Wix and Purolator are very good, especially the Boss.

Around 5k, the 3 mazdas all get syn oil, 2 have turbos ('23 CX30 & 91 Miata). The F350 will likely get conventional oil with changes around 3k (rebuilt 400 engine)

Yes.. Napa had become lacking to some degree.. They fixed that with production moving to Premium Guard so now you are safe with those.

At the mileage you are changing your Oil Filters, the Mazda is getting Synthetic oil and an Oil Filter change at 5K and the F350 gets a change at 3K, the Wix and Napa Gold Oil Filters will be fine.

You can do a Cross reference on the Oil Filters that your 2 cars use, look at the list, then Google the Oil Filter you are looking at and add the word Bitog.

Here is an example, this is using the Oil Filter that is on my desk as a Paper Weight, since it is so pretty.

Royal Purple 20-820 Oil Filter Bitog, whatever oil filter you are looking at, put in the name with the model number and then Bitog, and see what comes up.
 
One other question for Mazda filters. Mazda sells different filter for the turbo vs NA models, I dont see this in aftermarket offerings.
 
In 2012 sis bought a Mazda.
The Skyactiv engine was new, sported lower bypass pressure than the previous 2.0l and an oil filter wasn't available in the aftermarket for >6 months.
Cheaper filter sites just crossed the old 2.0l filter to the new engine (they fit)
I'd use the Hastings Look-Up as it was complete.
Sorry to see them go but happy for the new generation of quality. Thanks to Glenda and others for getting the word out.

Look up the part occasionally on a good site. It'll appear someday. Are you NA or turbo?

One other question for Mazda filters. Mazda sells different filter for the turbo vs NA models, I dont see this in aftermarket offerings.
Is the Mazda Oil Filter for a Turbo more expensive than the NA Oil Filter? I am willing to bet that if both Oil Filters were taken apart, they would look exactly the same. Both of the Mazda Oil Filters are probably exactly the same except for the Numbers on the Filter. JMO

I help a friend out with oil changes and in his family there are both CX-5 NA and CX-50 turbos.

I find the cost of the OEM filters to be crazy. Local dealer here wants $17 after tax. This is true whether it's the NA or turbo filter.
genuine Toyota filters from a local dealer are around $5.

I know there is a lot of talk here and other boards about these Mazda filters are special (not anti drain back valve.. high flow, etc) but whenever I see a video showing one of these filters being taken apart, they sure don't look special.

I have wondered if the NA vs turbo filter are actually the same but if they are, that really begs the question as to why they have two different parts. Why would Mazda introduce confusion with an extra part number if they are the same.

Without any specialized analysis there really is no way to determine any difference between the filters with just casual disassembly.

I just can't get over how pricey they are. They are the most expensive filter I've purchased.

The bypass pressure is different between the turbo and non-turbo filters.
