Looking at that again, it definitely has wings spayed out and what appears to be a long beak. Makes me think of a hummingbird, but never heard of them going into attics or barns and such.

Definitely a bee/wasp/hornet type animal. Head, thorax, abdomem, six legs, and wings. Probably one of those flesh eating varieties. Sleep cautiously, Donald.
Look on Youtube on how to make a bee trap, and up-size it to accommodate a larger version of bee.

That PVC vent stack doesn't look like it's plumbed to code.
It's a Bee. They have fatter hind legs than wasps.

The prior owner had a tee in the stack in the attic area and ran the vent for bathroom fan into that stack. When I pointed it to building inspector he said he had never seen it done before but thought it met code. (Or didn't know).
Go up there and look. Problem solved.
I don't know what the state codes are in NY. I do know the Southern codes and that's NOT legal.
Wife found one of those the other night and boy are they scary looking.

That is what it looks like to me. We have a lot of them in Texas. I didn't know that they were found that far north. They are very large, but not the size of a mouse.
I have a friend that has these wood bees drilling holes all over her carport. It's amazing how they make that hole so perfect.
