This afternoon, a friend helped me install aftermarket Moog variable rate cargo springs in our 2001 Taurus wagon. It was a ludicrously easy job and well worth the $100 for the parts.
Tauruses (wagon and sedan) are notorious for "butt-sag" where it looks like you're carrying a 500lbs load in the trunk/rear even when empty. I was worried ag first because the aftermarket springs were shorter than the OEM but because they are cargo springs they are much stiffer. The new springs raised rear adding about 1" of gap from the top of the tire to the fender lip. Car drives excellent now - doesn't feel like the back end wants to "wander" or wiggle going over bumps or when maneuvering sharply.
