How much oil flows is determined by the oil pump, not the filter. Most oil pumps are positive displacement, which means that, unless the relief is engaged, they displace the same amount of oil, which then goes through the filter, with every rotation.

Toyota also doesn't produce oil filters, they are produced by several different companies, depending on the application. Toyota also sell "fancy aftermarket" filters with higher efficiency ratings through TRD, FWIW.

Curious then, what interval are you changing your oil at? What interval does Toyota say it should be changed at?

Toyota says to change it every 10k miles in ideal conditions, I have done that on cross country road trips. In severe conditions, that most of us qualify for, every 5k miles.

If Toyota engineers want to have certain additives and their certain amount in the oil, no more, no less, then what Einstein are you to try something else? Yes, I own vehicles that use IOLM's that aren't mileage counters but instead calculate the interval based on operation conditions.

Is it the oil light or the maintenance light? What's the exact verbiage? Because the Toyota website says 5,000 mile maintenance intervals (not including oil) and 10,000 mile oil change intervals, and these are blanket.
